About

Volunteer work can be mutually beneficial. Even though helping projects and supporting their social causes, should have a special emphasis, volunteers can expect plenty of great personal benefits that can grow out of volunteering abroad!

Why volunteer abroad?

As many others before me, I was unsure of which path to take after finishing my school degree. However, I was sure that I did not want to continue studying or start a job right away. I started thinking about options and volunteering abroad seemed like the perfect opportunity to me. For eleven months I worked in occupational therapy in a Belgian elderly home at the French border. I was part of an incredible team that tried to entertain and encourage the home’s residents. For me, volunteering turned out to be the most amazing experience and I can definitely recommend it to everyone who is looking for a chance to make a difference in people’s lives. Here are my top reasons why you should start volunteering:

  • Boosting own CV

  • Volunteering is a must on every bucket list

  • Passing on your knowledge

  • Becoming self-reliant

  • Chance for storytelling

  • Taking a break

  • Creating unique memories

  • Learning new skills

  • Discovering new, exotic foods

  • Gaining new perspective

  • Overcoming personal limits

  • Enhancing self-sustainability

  • Being adventurous

  • Getting new inspiration

  • Making new friends

  • Improving language skills

  • Making valuable experiences

  • Exploring the world

  • Engaging in cultural exchange

  • Making a continuous difference

I hope you found some inspiration for why you should volunteer abroad! Going overseas to support social projects is very rewarding. Not only can you help make an impact and join an amazing cause, but being a volunteer abroad means that both parties benefit mutually. Even though helping others should have a special focus, volunteers can expect to gain plenty in return. It is truly a unique experience! Which reason do you consider No. 1?
