CIEE is a nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization that transforms lives and builds bridges between individuals and nations by sponsoring a wide variety of opportunities for the exchange of ideas and experiences. CIEE helps people develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world, and contributes to a more peaceful global community by humanizing international relations.
CIEE partners with overseas universities to provide direct matriculation options, creates CIEE courses to add to the offerings, and staffs each Study Center with CIEE-employed Resident Staff who provide co-curricular activities and around-the-clock student services. We offer quality academics with opportunities for cultural engagement such as excursions, homestays, volunteer opportunities, and internships to provide the highest quality study abroad experiences.

A student University of Tulsa
"I gained so much confidence in my abilities within my language, as a part of the business world, and as a global citizen. I was able to travel across two continents, five countries, and over 25 cities while making lifelong friends and having incomparable experiences. I found a part of myself that I didn't know existed; that is u..."
A student University of Tulsa
"I learned more about another culture and a whole new life style. I made a lot of new friends from all over the world (some were native Japanese, some were Americans and some were international students). I got to try new and delicious foods and travel all over Japan. Most importantly, I became more independent and learned that ..."
A student Brandeis University
"I gained confidence in my Spanish and created great friendships with my host family."
A student University of Tulsa
"Absolutely worthwhile! I learned so much about French culture, other than what one can read simply from a guidebook. I have a thorough understanding of the culture now, and it sincerely helped my language skills!"
A student Indiana University - Bloomington
"Because the program was very poorly directed and run, my peers and I had to figure out how to make the experience worthwhile on our own. We planned our own trips and excursions and had the most amazing time with things we planned ourselves. "
A student Brandeis University
"I learned how to make time for the things I really wanted to do in Japan and in Tokyo. I was there to study, but I didn't want that to take about from exploring the country."
A student Brandeis University
"I gained a lot of perspective, and learned I am in the right major for me. It was definitely worthwhile."
Jenny W Brandeis University
"I gained advanced language skills, while was my primary goal in studying abroad. I also found that I felt much more independent after living abroad for five months."
Julia B Rutgers University - New Brunswick
"I learned that racism presents itself in all sorts of ways and that feminism transfers into cultures differently. Also, that the Spanish language is not queer inclusive. I would not have learned that and challenged my thoughts about social justice issues had I not lived in Spain. The progressive movements are incredibly problema..."
A student Wartburg College
"I became much more comfortable with speaking Spanish and confident in my ability to live in another country. It was an incomparable opportunity to study Latin American Studies (my major) from a Latin American academic perspective, as well as try to integrate myself into a Latin American culture and experience it firsthand. I lov..."
A student Wellesley College
"Gained better fluency and cultural understanding. Definitely worthwhile."
Zoë R Vanderbilt University
"I gained an experience in Korean society and people; and it was the most worthful gain that I earn from this program"
A student Brandeis University
"I learned that I shouldn't feel bad about not liking awful people. It was worthwhile though, I met a couple nice people and got to travel all over"
A student Brandeis University
"I learned about the different cultures/traditions that exist among the autonomous regions of Spain; the economic & political problems it was facing at the time; an understanding of what it feels to be a foreigner; and how to adapt to change."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned so many things about myself, and I have a new sense of adventure! I gained confidence, Spanish skills, joy, and appreciation for the differences in not only cultures, but also individuals. It was completely worthwhile- everyone should study abroad if you have the slightest interest or opportunity."
Hannah C Hope College
"I gained a lot of confidence in my Spanish. I also learned how to navigate in a foreign country on my own. It was definitely worthwhile!"
Sarah C Clark University - Worcester
"Although I gained internship experience while on the program, the experience in itself was not what I had expected it to be. I worked for a startup whose mission was very compelling to me, but because my boss was not very receptive of what I wanted to gain out of the internship, I was left doing busy work most of the time. I fee..."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"Barcelona made me even more independent and aware of the world around me. "
A student Brandeis University
"i learnt a lot about myself and gained much international experience "
A student Brandeis University
"My experience was absolutely worthwhile. It was hard at times. I have been away from home a lot before, but none of my experiences were like this one. I was thrown completely out of my comfort zone, was miserable for bits of the time, but I wouldn't change a single day. I learned to silence my mind and just observe and learn; I ..."
Molly P Brandeis University
"People talk about how spending time abroad completely changes you and your perspective. For me, this was very untrue. Perhaps it is because I had the opportunity to live in multiple countries abroad growing up, but I am not sure. I found that being abroad gives you a better understanding of who you are by challenging and questio..."
