I learned more from my experiences traveling and visiting clinics and hospitals than I did in any of my classes. I had to function independently and cook my own meals and learn how to use public transportation. I think it would've been a lot easier with more help and preparation from the program staff, but I definitely grew a lo... A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I saw things from a different light. I saw things from a developing country perspective. Things move slowly, but they seem much happier about it quite honestly. There are things related to the health care system that was different, and things that should be improved. Because I went on this program, I feel like I have a clearer u... I gained a lot of perspective, and learned I am in the right major for me. It was definitely worthwhile. Jenny W - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained a lot of experience in the clinic setting in Botswana and that was absolutely incredible. I gained a lot of knowledge about Botswana, Setswana culture and lifestyle, and Batswana. It was definitely worthwhile, and while I wish that I had had the opportunity to live with my host family and work in the medical clinics al... Emily G - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned a lot about HIV and the cultural opinions on the pandemic. I learned a lot working in the clinics. Simply being in the culture was fascinating. The trip was definitely worthwhile. Dani M - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained an additional world view that has broadened the scope at which I interpret everything around me. It was definitely worth while. Carolyn W - Western Washington University View Entire Review
It was incredibly worth my while. I find myself talking about my experiences in Botswana all the time and learned the most about myself while I was there. I gained a lot of independence and self-assurance. Also, being exposed to their public health systems has mad me so much more passionate about the subject. The biggest impact this experience had on my was a personal one. I went from being a high-strung, busy student to one that has a more relaxed attitude about life. I was able to put a lot of things into perspective and feel that I have a more balanced life style. Shelby L - University of Kentucky View Entire Review
Even though I was only in Botswana for two months, it feels like a second home. I learned so much about their culture, but more importantly, about myself. My desire to have a future in both medicine and public health heightened and I am excited to continue to travel and experience other cultures. Ariana T - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Because the program was very poorly directed and run, my peers and I had to figure out how to make the experience worthwhile on our own. We planned our own trips and excursions and had the most amazing time with things we planned ourselves. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review

I learned how to adapt to a new lifestyle, and I got a glimpse into how health care is dealt with in another country. Brett S - Truman State University View Entire Review
I gained a lot of experience from working in the clinics and volunteering, which was what I was looking for. I met great people. The physical and cultural experience is more valuable than the classroom experience. Komal R - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
This was the greatest experience of my life. I learned so much about their culture as was welcomed into their own culture with open arms. This hospitality has shown me a lot about life and has given me new perspective on how to live my own. Going abroad also makes the world less intimidating and gives me a brighter out look on ... I think the most important thing I learn was to be more assertive. Its easy just to let people have their way, but I learned to stand up for myself. To make it in a foreign country away from anyone you know you have to learn to stand up for yourself. Abigail P - University of Nebraska- Lincoln View Entire Review
Although I gained some important and applicable experience, it wasn't worth giving up the summer for. Sarah Y - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
