Explore Western Europe by sea...The historic seaports of Ireland, France, Portugal, and Spain all have stories to tell. Celebrate their past, present, and future as you explore each one from the platform of a traditional sailing vessel. Learn about the rich maritime traditions of these ancient cities and address how they have evolved over time as the result of globalization. Visit four distinct nations for a taste of their unique, vibrant cultures, drawing comparisons from each to create a truly global summer experience. No sailing experience required!
Who Should Apply? This program is ideal for Humanities or Social Science majors who are interested in learning more about the oceans from a historical perspective. We welcome students of all majors to apply.
Academic Credit Four semester credit hours from Boston University upon successful completion of the program. Financial Aid SEA Semester is dedicated to making your experience affordable. We grant over one million dollars of financial aid every year, and are currently meeting all demonstrated need.
Available to students enrolling in SEA Semester from colleges operating on a trimester or quarter calendar. Not applicable to SEA Summer Session or SEA Trimester Program due to the already reduced cost of these programs.
Must be accepted to SEA Semester and attending a trimester or quarter college/university.
One award is available per each SEA Semester class for a student from one of the five colleges in the "5-College Consortium" (Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, Amherst College, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Hampshire College).
April 20 for Fall Semesters; November 1 for Spring Semesters
