It was definitely worthwhile. I gained a different view on how to live life and my plans for the future were challenged. It made me really realize that other countries have cultures that date back thousands of years, not just a few centuries like the US. - University of Hartford View Entire Review

About

Study in Ireland's only university town. Take a step outside the big city and live the best of both worlds – a small Irish community on the outskirts of Dublin City with easy access to downtown.

As the capital of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin is one of the liveliest cities in Europe. With one of the youngest populations comprising people from many different parts of Europe and the globe, the city has a full and varied cultural and intellectual life, which brings together the best of traditional Ireland and of modern Europe.

Programs in Dublin Include:

  • Full Curriculum: Maynooth University awards credit based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Semester courses at the university are usually awarded 5 or 10 ECTS credits. Universities in the U.S. typically award .5 credit hour for every 1 ECTS credit. For example, a course worth 5 ECTS would transfer to the U.S. as 2.5 semester credit hours. It is very important that students planning on studying at Maynooth University discuss the transfer of credits with an advisor at their home university – some universities have different standards for transferring ECTS credits. Based on the ECTS credits awarded per course, students usually take 5-6 classes in order to receive 12-15 credit hours per semester. Students are responsible for ensuring that they are enrolled in the required amount of semester credits to meet requirements of the home university. This program also offers speciality certificate opportunities - see API website for more information! Most courses at Maynooth University do not have specific prerequisites, though certain disciplines may (languages, mathematics, and sciences). Courses offered on a year-long basis can only be taken by students visiting for the full academic year.

  • Summer Irish Studies: This four week summer program presents the best of both worlds – the opportunity to live and study in Ireland’s only university town in a rural setting, while being only a half-hour away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin. The Maynooth University summer school offers the largest number of summer course options of any of our Ireland programs in topics such as international business, economics, history, literature, anthropology, geography, and environmental studies. Courses include unique field trips to places such as the Irish Parliament, the National Library, country estates, and more!
