API (Academic Programs International): Dublin - Study Abroad at Maynooth University

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile. I gained a different view on how to live life and my plans for the future were challenged. It made me really realize that other countries have cultures that date back thousands of years, not just a few centuries like the US.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There was much less work required than at my home school

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

My API resident directors were wonderful and checked in with us on campus frequently, so we had a personal relationship with them and could easily talk to them about any problems or concerns

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in an on-campus apartment with four Irish girls, and each of us had our own bedroom and bathroom and shared a full kitchen.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Living on campus with Irish students certainly helped integrate me into the local culture and helped me make local friends.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not personally have any issues, but some of my program mates did and the program directors made sure to help them through the situations.

* Safety:

In Maynooth, I never felt in danger or worried for anyone's safety. We were a little more cautious in Dublin, but it still felt much safer than other cities I've visited.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Groceries were incredibly cheap, but eating out or other activities were pretty expensive when the exchange rate is considered.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100-$150

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
