While I didn't often feel culture shock, I learned how many of the daily things I take for granted are unique to my culture/community in the US. While life in Paris wasn't insanely different, all of the little difference add up fast. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned so much about French culture, language, and academics. I explored Paris all the time with friends from the program and felt like a true resident by the end of my stay there. Studying abroad really broadened my horizons and opened me up to new experiences!! Callison Kernick - Pomona College View Entire Review
Other than improving my French, I am more well-versed in French culture. I also had the opportunity to travel to several other cities because traveling within Europe is very cheap and accessible. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I greatly improved my French. I met some incredible friends. I learned about French culture, student life and the NGO world in a way I never would have if I did not complete this exchange. I gained independence and more confidence. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
My language speaking and comprehension (oral and written) progressed significantly. I can read academic books/catalogs, listen to entire lectures and understand everything including technical vocabulary. I speak more fluidly and with greater variation in vocabulary and style. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review

Everyone who goes to Paris should learn about the stereo-typically French things like cheese, wine, art, food, etc. but the best lessons Paris has to offer lie beneath the glamorous surface. Recognizing that Paris is not just a post card, but a living, breathing city is not as apparent as one would assume. The lessons I learned ... Michael P - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Yes! It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life! Shannon G - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I gained an understanding of France's culture through the perspective of their radically different education system and I felt confident enough in my French abilities that I was able to spend the summer teaching French in a refugee center. Fluency in the language and a real-life experience of living the French lifestyle. It was absolutely worthwhile. I wish it had lasted longer! Abigail Romain - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor View Entire Review
It was worthwhile. I learned that I don't take to cultural change as well, and that even if you're trying to immerse yourself, it's important to recognize that you're only there for 5 months, so you should feel comfortable holding on to certain customs. A student - Pomona College View Entire Review
A lot of self growth. What is meaningful / where I should spend my time. Going and doing stuff rather than always saying I'm going to do stuff. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I loved my host family and got to experience their culture. I realize that a lot of my life in America is in a bubble of the northeast United States and after abroad I am excited to broaden my horizons A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It wasn't worth it. I mean I am happy that I achieved language proficiency, but I could have done that another way. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

This was not my first time living abroad, so it was not very daunting to me, other than the language barrier. I had always dreamed of studying in Paris because I loved the language, and the impressionist paintings. I was always hungry for wanting to see where all this beauty and inspiration came from. However, as a city I was so... A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Despite all the obstacles, I would choose to study abroad all over again. I learned a lot about French culture that I could only learn while in Paris. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Any time spent abroad is an important investment in both time and money. In my case, I chose to spend the year because I had always wanted to do this and I had specific goals that I was working to achieve. I am a serious student, and I did not spend a year of my college career in this program for such results (I mean the convers... Philippe H - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
