Paris is the best city on earth - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I was very independent while abroad which I think was good for me. I think some of the best parts of being abroad is just being able to live the day-to-day life in another culture. I also loved being able to visit a ton of Parisian museums (mostly free, thanks to being a local student). My french skills definitely improved, most... - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I found that in addition to my French developing, I learned what it's like to live in the middle of a city and navigate it, how to cope with cultural differences—including with the people I live with—and, above all, how to deal with having a lot of free time and alone time. I think it was very worthwhile, and I exit a more matur... - Tufts University View Entire Review
Made lovely non-French but European friends. I would feel comfortable pursuing graduate studies or working in France. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was worthwhile, I learned about cultural adaptation and grit. As a government major, observing the political life and influence of the state was very interesting to me as well. - Bowdoin College View Entire Review
My language proficiency improved immensely and I had a wonderful time getting to know Paris, making friends, and getting a much needed break from campus. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned a lot of the language. I feel very proud of my progress in the language. I realized how lucky I was to be surrounded by strong black women peers on this program because we were always there for each other. And i learned truly how strong and independent of a person I am. - Pomona College View Entire Review

Above anything else, I gained an understanding of another culture, and the ways in which it, as a European culture, is similar to and different from the American culture in which I grew up. Studying abroad was absolutely a worthwhile experience. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was very much worthwhile. Most importantly, I learned how to travel and connect with people from different backgrounds. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I went into the program focused on the academic aspects, namely improving my french language skills and familiarizing with the French university system. I achieved all of my goals in terms of academic improvement and I feel I was able to integrate French culture very well. I feel like the culture I learned about experienced and ... - Swarthmore College View Entire Review

I learned an unfathomable amount of French, I learned how different culture interact with each other and exist and finally I learned who I am and who I want to be. It was incredibly worthwhile and I am so grateful for Middlebury and the opportunity to experience Paris through a safe, fun and immersive program. - Bowdoin College View Entire Review
Firstly, my french language skills improved a lot. For that reason alone it was worthwhile. Being able to immerse myself in French culture by living with a host family and taking classes in french at a Paris University proved to be very valuable experiences as well. - Middlebury College View Entire Review

About

Designed for students at an advanced level of French, the Middlebury C.V. Starr School in France provides opportunities to experience French culture in Paris - the cosmopolitan capital at the heart of France. La "Ville Lumière", Paris is home to countless museums, cafés, and medieval streets that wind around contemporary architecture. A city à decouvrir, Paris is an invitation to experience all the world's cultures while maintaining a proud and distinctly French feeling.

Students enroll in up to two Middlebury courses at the School in France headquarters, the Centre Madeleine, and take the rest of their courses at one of the many host universities in the city. At all sites, whether in a university course alongside local students, or at the Centre Madeleine, courses are conducted solely in French.  Housing - with local families or in residences - is geared to provide students with an immersion in the language and culture outside of the classroom.

Le Centre Madeleine, the headquarters of the Middlebury School in France, is located in the 8th arrondissement, close to the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées.  Students enroll in courses across several disciplines at both the Centre Madeleine and in one of several partner institutions: the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, the Université Paris Diderot- Paris 7, Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot (ENM for Music majors only), or the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture (ESA) (for Architecture majors only).
