March 02, 2023 Memorable
I learned a lot about French culture that outsiders don't realize. They're actually very friendly and loving if you show them respect and care. It was certainly worthwhile. - Tufts University View Entire Review
I gained a lot of resilience and adaptability because of several though situations which I found myself in. I gained greater proficiency in French and formed valuable contacts and gained life and professional skills from my academic internship. It was also cool to study in such an important place culturally - Middlebury College View Entire Review
February 05, 2023 Semester In Paris
I gained a personal perspective on a country that I had always studied. I was able to immerse myself into the culture and gain considerable independence and confidence navigating a place that I knew little about when I arrived. This experience pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and test my ability to navigate a busy ci... - Middlebury College View Entire Review

France is a misogynistic country. French people are rude and arrogant. Their education is something I don't wish upon my worst enemy. Food is pretty good - Middlebury College View Entire Review
July 30, 2022 Amazing Experience
Sooo worthwhile I learned a lot about myself - Middlebury College View Entire Review
My program helped me to stay focused on academics while using a foreign language. The language pledge forced me to develop vocabulary both in the academic and social milieu. - Connecticut College View Entire Review
I was able to learn actual French, and what I mean by that is that I was able to learn everyday French. In class, I only learned academic French—which makes sense, it is a university setting—but then on top of that, it was most reading and writing. So, alongside gaining new vocabulary, I greatly improved my oral comprehension an... - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and what I want out of life, not to mention that I gained more practical language skills and strengthened many friendships. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I think my French skills did improve significantly- specifically my comprehension! I also felt very immersed and learned a lot about the culture and history. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned how to be responsible for myself and manage my finances. I also learned how to make friends in a foreign country. It was worthwhile. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned how to speak French at a near fluent level. I would say it was worthwhile, but I would much rather have studied with a less intensive program that allowed me to speak English a bit more often. I was incredibly stressed and confused during my time in the city and Middlebury did very little to remedy this. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Language, independence, knowledge of another culture/city, food recipes, travel memories, learning new things about myself and what I can do and cope with, and new friends. It was absolutely worth it - Middlebury College View Entire Review

My French developed far beyond what I imagined it could. I made life long relationships with my host family and with other students. It was 100% worthwhile. - Middlebury College View Entire Review

July 11, 2022 Really Hard
I learned that I have major depressive disorder. I learned that I can't simply go to a new country and a new culture and a new living situation and two new schools and expect to thrive. I need more support. I felt like I had very little - Bates College View Entire Review

About

Designed for students at an advanced level of French, the Middlebury C.V. Starr School in France provides opportunities to experience French culture in Paris - the cosmopolitan capital at the heart of France. La "Ville Lumière", Paris is home to countless museums, cafés, and medieval streets that wind around contemporary architecture. A city à decouvrir, Paris is an invitation to experience all the world's cultures while maintaining a proud and distinctly French feeling.

Students enroll in up to two Middlebury courses at the School in France headquarters, the Centre Madeleine, and take the rest of their courses at one of the many host universities in the city. At all sites, whether in a university course alongside local students, or at the Centre Madeleine, courses are conducted solely in French.  Housing - with local families or in residences - is geared to provide students with an immersion in the language and culture outside of the classroom.

Le Centre Madeleine, the headquarters of the Middlebury School in France, is located in the 8th arrondissement, close to the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées.  Students enroll in courses across several disciplines at both the Centre Madeleine and in one of several partner institutions: the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, the Université Paris Diderot- Paris 7, Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot (ENM for Music majors only), or the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture (ESA) (for Architecture majors only).
