Brandeis University
University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"It was very hard to break into such a large university in one semester. While exchange students were paired with a buddy, visiting students are not. I spent the first week of class just trying to locate buildings -- I pretty much felt like a freshman. Montreal is a terrific city, but McGill (especially in the wintertime) might n..."

Lucas G Brandeis University
"I loved traveling in Europe. That, to me, was the best part of my experience. The program of the university I attended was not a good experience. I don't recommend it."

"This is a complicated question. I of course gained and learned a great amount from being in Hyderabad and attending classes in a local university and would happily do so again, but my overall experience with CIEE was incredibly negative, and I would not return to the program nor recommend anyone attend unless there are huge chan..."

"Living in such an expensive place really helps you learn to budget. When you're abroad you're constantly thinking of where to travel to next, so budgeting definitely comes in handy! "

"I feel like a learned a lot about Chinese culture, and different kinds of Chinese people, which was something I had less exposure to on my homestay program in HS. I also became more independent, and felt like I grew as a person from both good and bad experiences. "

"I learned the importance of being honest with myself, not making a lifetime decision out of anger. I also learned that it is important to travel with at least one person you know you can hag out with. Most importantly, I strengthened my faith and relationship with Jesus Christ by attending the EU (Evangelical Union) group meetin..."

"I feel like I learned more about personal growth, rather than academic growth. Academically, I do not feel like I have grown. "
A student Brandeis University
"To be honest, the quality of education is much higher at Brandeis University. The workload and academic pressure is stronger at Brandeis. Also, you are losing 25% of your opportunity to raise your GPA. If you are a student who wants to academically learn and do well in your school work to pursue higher education, I strongly reco..."

"Gained huge lessons in independence and self-reliance. Gained a lot of perspective on American culture and history. Studying abroad is totally worthwhile because you will grow a ton- I just perhaps should have considered a different city for myself. "
Emily F Brandeis University
"I enjoyed being abroad but, for whatever reason, did not really grow to love Seville. I definitely gained skills about being independent and self-sufficient, which are incredibly valuable. My spoken Spanish definitely improved a bit and I augmented my Spanish vocabulary. I did not really enjoy my classes at the university due..."

"if I were studying art, Siena School could've been a good option, but for sustainability it was a sham. I learned to trust myself more and not take anyone too seriously. Essentially, I learned to be more self-reliant and independent."
A student Brandeis University
"I learned to be more independent, and it was nice to see the "real world", unlike at Brandeis. I do think it was worthwhile, just not on an academic level. "
A student Brandeis University
"My language skills did improve, but at the cost of being very stressed and struggling to balance enjoying being in a foreign country and taking classes."
A student Brandeis University
"I learned so much about how to conduct myself in an international community in the world headquarters of public health, I learned a tremendous amount about international public health and cultures that I could not learn in the class room from my internship, and I've gained incredible networking and work experiences from the inte..."
