Austin College
University Information
Austin College's Center for Global Learning facilitates Semester Abroad Studies and JanTerms. If a student would like to spend a semester abroad with Austin College, the he/she should stop by our office (Wright Campus Center #204) to begin the process. It is extremely important to go through the process in the office, otherwise the College will be unable to send the student's financial aid to the program and the student will need to withdraw from Austin College during their semester or year abroad. The Center's goal is to make each student's experience abroad a meaningful and engaging experience. In order for that to happen, students are required to go through the process in place at the Center.
We look forward to working with you and please read about other student's reviews and experiences at the different programs and locations that can be found at Abroad101.
Important Dates and Deadlines
As of right now, there are no firm deadlines in place for you to complete the Abroad101 Survey. However, before we can post your transcript from your sojourn abroad, you must complete the Abroad101 Survey and interview with the director (Truett Cates).
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation with this. We look forward to hearing about your time and experiences abroad!
"It was worthwhile. Of course it changed me and increased my cultural awareness; it would be silly if it didn't. I learned that Central and Eastern European History and Politics are two of the most interesting subjects I've encountered and plan to study them in the future. I thought I wanted to, but I was very unfamiliar with the..."

"Yes definitely. it brought me a better understanding of the word "different". and of the sentence. "it is not better, it is not worse, it is different". I think (and I hope) that I have gained in tolerance and awareness toward others. The experience reinforced my wish to work abroad."
Agathe D Austin College
"I learned to really open my eyes and be open to other cultures and people. The study abroad made me realize I really want to focus my studies around Latin America and made me realize I need to go to a grad school that will allow me to do that. "

"Berlin is definitely one of the best cities I have lived in my life. Every week there is a festival, a concert, a parade or something going on. There is so much culture in Berlin that one is able to try something of every country. For example, I decided to learn Portuguese and take capoeira lessons. It is great to know that ther..."

"I gained so many new understandings and feel like I improved myself as a person immensely. My communication skills are so much better because of the foreign language aspect of my experience and I am much more willing to try new things and test my boundaries. Going abroad has made me so curious about the rest of the world and has..."

"I have learned so much in respect to culture food, environment and politics. It makes me realize America needs a lot of work. "The bigger question is what didn't I gain? I have an inner awareness and strength about myself. I pushed the boundaries of my comfort zones to help me realize what it is I want out of life and my own sort of position in life. I can honestly say I came back home having not a single regret. "

"I knew absolutely nothing about the Middle East before I did this program. I gained a new perspective about international politics and how people view the US. I learned Arabic. I converted to Islam. I feel less ignorant about Arabs. "

"Australia is very similar to the United States. There is still materialism, consumerism, capitalist markets and so on. Their histories are very similar also, with the English exploring the land, chasing off or socially integrating the Indigenous, as well as changing the landscape. So by learning more about the way Australia came..."

"If you're interested in spending a semester in a unique city and attending a top-notch university, give University of Melbourne consideration. The people are lovely, the city has lots to do, and there are also opportunities for academic growth. I have very fond memories of my semester!"

"There are so many things that I gained from going abroad (to many in my opinion to even begin to discuss). It was the most memorable and best thing that I have ever been given the privilege of doing. I encourage everyone to go somewhere and really try to assimilate to the culture. Your life will not be the same. "

"It was initially much harder to be away from home than I thought. But once the initial few weeks passed by, I was having the time of my life. I wish I was still there and that it had not ended yet. These experiences are ones that I will cherish forever."
Farsheed F Austin College
"I wouldn't change my experience for the world. It is a cliche statement, but it is so true. I loved all of my experience. While the start of my program sucked because Arcadia seemed unorganized, the second that I moved into my dorm, everything was great. I learned to be more independent and more outgoing. The experience real..."

"Before I went to Argentina South America seemed to be almost this forgotten vestige of the world. It's seems so separate from the US, Eurasia, and Africa. But now it seems such much closer, so much more open and I really want to travel and become acquainted with more South American countries."
