Opened my eyes up to the world, more than worthwhile - University of Nevada - Reno View Entire Review
I gained so much knowledge about the customs and differences of the culture, as expected, and also many new friendships from unexpected places. Furthermore, the multitude of experiences definitely have bolstered my own image of myself and the things that I am capable of, such as traveling outside of the US for the first time, b... - University of Maine - Orono View Entire Review

I went with the intention of learning the Spanish culture and language, but what I really gained was that I learned so much about myself that I simply couldn't have acquired at home. I met incredible people and made lifelong memories. - University of Maryland - College Park View Entire Review
I've FULLY realized that we are all the same, and cultures are just man-made. If i were born in China I would like eating cow stomach, and if i were born in Spain I would prefer kissing someone on both cheeks than hugging them. We are all the same, and our languages and cultures just bring out and emphasize different parts of w... - California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo View Entire Review

My experience was more than worthwhile. Before making the decision to study abroad I was afraid of being in a place I don't know. I was hesitant and unsure if this was going to be a good decision for me. But it was more than that. It's difficult to describe the amount of things learned abroad. Definitely became more independent ... - University of Nevada, Reno View Entire Review

Worthwhile would be an understatement. I gained the knowledge of another culture, a certain level of independence, friends and a level in a language that will last a lifetime! - University of Mount Union View Entire Review
By studying abroad in Alicante through the USAC program, I was able to grow personally while receiving an amazing education at the same time. Over the course of the six months that I was in Spain, I became much more independent, easy going, and assertive. I also was able to finish my Spanish degree and advance my language skills... - University of Idaho View Entire Review
Confidence to do what ever I want. It was worthwhile, what other time in your life will you get the opportunity to be a student in a foreign country, right by the Mediterranean Sea : ) - California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo View Entire Review
Traveling on my own is so much less intimidating! It's impossible to completely sum up everything I learned. I got to experience how people live, think, and feel differently in their own society. Simply reading it from a textbook doesn't do it any justice at all. At some time or another, we all got lost, or lost something or had... - Troy University View Entire Review

About

The Alicante program is ideal for students who wish to experience all that a beautiful Spanish city on the Mediterranean has to offer. Alicante is a modern, welcoming city bathed by the Mediterranean Sea which offers all the advantages of being located in such a setting. The magnificent sandy beaches and blue waters of the coast, sunny weather, rich history, and lovely monuments make Alicante a top destination in Spain. People in Alicante live most of their life outdoors as part of the Mediterranean lifestyle: busy cafés, vibrant nightlife, street markets, and local festivals are abundant. The campus is also one of the most beautiful in Spain, with lovely gardens, fountains, palm trees, and modern architecture. All of these factors create a great learning and social atmosphere for USAC students. This program offers two diverse academic areas: Intensive Language and Spanish and European Studies. You will have the opportunity to study the Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies through a wide selection of academic courses, as well as through personal interaction with the host culture. You may stay for one semester, a full year, or for a summer session. Our intensive approach also allows you to complete up to two years of university foreign language coursework in only one semester to help meet Spanish minor or major requirements.  In addition to the USAC courses, advanced language students can take academic courses, workshops, and internships at the University of Alicante, providing an unparalleled opportunity for integration. You may even have local students in your USAC courses. Alicante is also home to Ciudad de la Luz—the largest, most modern cinema studio complex in Europe—where USAC students may take Filmmaking each spring. However, the academic courses are only a part of the intended value of study abroad. Participation in formal and informal cultural and group activities, such as field trips and visits to cultural events and village festivals, also constitute an integral part of the experience. The first four days of each semester also offer an optional tour of Madrid.
