About

During this intensive seven-city and three-country program, you will learn about ways in which European cities and nations have dealt with the legacies and memories of 20th-century political, social and ethnic conflicts. The main portion of the program will be located in the Polish city of Wroclaw, a former German metropolis that has experienced some of the most dramatic upheavals in recent European history (WWII, post-war exchange of populations, Communism, post-Communist transformation). An important element of the program will be a study trip to Berlin, where we will visit and discuss sites of memory in Germany's struggle to remember and represent the tragedy of the Holocaust, WWII and post-war division into East and West. The program will also take us to Poland's former royal city of Krakow and to the former Nazi concentration camps of Auschwitz/Birkenau. Student-based ‘action research’ will constitute the base from which we will work together to understand historical conflicts and reflect upon ongoing challenges at reconciliation.
