Learned a lot about the EU, but a lot more about myself than I expected. The program was good, with some flaws. Overall enjoyable, and I would recommend it to a student strong academically. - Santa Clara University View Entire Review
I learned about Europe. I was worthwhile. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Not only did I learn all the ins and outs of European political and economic systems, but I also learned all about the culture of different European countries. Understanding and experiencing the diverse cultures of Europe is something you cannot do unless you travel and see each culture in action. This program allowed me to do j... - University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill View Entire Review
I did learn academically, but mostly it was just a lot of different everyday experiences. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I think that anyone interested in any kind of International work must study abroad. There is no substitute for being at the source of what you are studying. You are more confident about what you know, more motivated to learn, and become more passionate about what you are doing. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

The IES European Union program changed my life. It helped me to grow in self-confidence, developed my independence, and built friendships that could last a lifetime. I've developed an interest for international affairs and diplomacy, and I can't wait to take the knowledge and skills that I've developed to the real world. The program was extremely informational and educative. I learned a lot from the classes that I took and I think that in general, the people on my program were highly knowledgeable as well. My knowledge of the Western Balkans and Turkey was not much, thus this program taught me a whole lot about the region and the problems that prevent them from entering the EU. I am now more interested in the future of these countries and how the EU may improve their conditions. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

About

Why study abroad in one location when you can experience the politics and culture of more than 15 European countries? Our European Union Program allows you to live and learn about European politics, economics, business, and international relations like never before.

The centrally-located city of Freiburg, Germany, will be your home base. It’s here that you’ll take English-taught courses like Global Leadership, Political Science, and German. As part of the program’s required Integrative Seminar, you will travel for 22 days to gain exposure to the European Union and beyond. Not only will these course-related excursions give you better insight into the strengths and challenges of the European Union, they will also give you the experience you need to build your résumé and prepare you for an international career. As you visit each new country, you develop an understanding of the European Union, its history, and its institutions.

Europe will be your classroom. Imagine visiting the European Parliament and discussing current social and political issues with EU officials, or meeting with leaders of multinational corporations to learn about international trade.
