University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"I learned a lot about Wildlife Management which was the academic topic of the semester. I also think that I learned a lot about myself by stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something completely different. The people there have a much different perspective on life and it was great to be able to see the world through their..."

"I loved Siena! We were able to in just two months really immerse in the city. Siena is a city that you can definitely feel at home in after just two months due to its size and the help of great Italian classes and outside excursions. I was able to watch the Palio, one of the biggest and oldest events in Italy, travel to a few of..."

"I learned so much about another culture, but mostly I learned about myself. My views on health, wealth and the world were challenged this semester, and I am a more thoughtful and understanding person because of that. I learned about the realities facing South Africans, like the AIDS epidemic and Apartheid, and people's resilienc..."

"Living with 15 other students on a ship is not easy when you have to be with them 24/7. But it has also created these amazing bonds between us. The experience made me evaluate myself like never before. "

"I learned how to shoot on film, how to more precisely measure exposure and work with light, the importance of film language (color, composition, etc) and how to work extremely closely with a group to develop and produce an idea from start to finish. The absolute best thing I gained were the friends I made and the new connections..."

"Aside from gaining an understanding of how people live around the world, what conditions they live in, and how they are still happy regardless, I gained two main things. One, the flame inside of me was re-ignited and I was reminded of the things that once made me feel driven and passionate, and my confidence was restored. Two, I..."

"My year abroad was beyond worthwhile. I gained a sense of individual accomplishment, growth, and pride in my academic work due to the tutorial system. I also learned how to have a more balanced social life with my work since your weekly schedule is largely self-organized. With such a flexible schedule I was able to open my sched..."

"I wanted to go abroad to a place most different from the way I live. India fulfilled that and I learned a lot about the social and political forces that drive public health in India. Totally worthwhile! Though because the program was dedicated to public health, I felt like that was all India was about and I wish I could have had..."

"I gained the confidence that I can adapt to and thrive in a place where I know nothing. I didn't know the language and I didn't know anyone, but I still gained lifelong friends and had a lot fun in the 4 months I spent there. "
A student Brandeis University
"My experience was very worthwhile. I met new people and had experiences that I could never imitate in a classroom at my home university. I pushed myself to overcome the challenge of language barriers and became more confident in myself and my knowledge of the Dominican culture. "

"Studying abroad was completely worthwhile— I got to have a broader understanding and context of where others come from as well as an opportunity to reflect on how my life priorities may be a result of the culture I come from."
Celia O Brandeis University
"I felt like I learned (and LIVED) about a totally foreign area to me. I don't think I ever would have had an experience even remotely similar to this otherwise. This was the most exciting and adventurous time of my life, and definitely worthwhile!"
