i learned to take chances. go out with people you barely know because they might end up becoming your best friends. - University of Nevada, Reno View Entire Review
I learned how to be more independent and cook for myself. I also was able to reflect and think about the things I want to get out of my life and what I value. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
August 04, 2016 A Year In Oslo
I learned to be resilient, how to start with no friends in a completely new place and build a community for myself. Especially as a political science major, it was interesting to be abroad in the leadup to a presidential election and understand more about how America is viewed from the outside. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with USAC: Oslo, Norway - University of Oslo Undergraduate and Graduate Courses
I learned how to speak Norwegian and had an amazing time exploring the country. It was absolutely worthwhile and I will actually be living in Oslo for the next year because I had such a good time! - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I gained a huge amount of knowledge about the Norwegian history and culture through my courses and observations. I also made close friends from Korea, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Australia, Italy, Latvia, England, and Ireland who enriched my understanding of cultural difference and international affairs. - Barnard College View Entire Review
It was fascinating to see the various similarities and differences between the countries I visited and my home country. Confidence in myself, an understanding of Norwegian culture and family norms, a bit of norwegian, and bits and peices of other cultures from international students. Yes absolutely worthwhile. - Berea College View Entire Review
I really enjoyed going to Norway. I had lived there previously which greatly impacted the experiences I had there. Oslo is a very cool city but also very expensive. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Overall, studying abroad was the best academic decision I have ever made in my life. It has given me a broader understaning and appreciation for culture, diversity, government welfare provisions, education, and politics. Given my interest in Norwegian policies, I am working on a masters thesis comparing US and Norwegian policy. ... - Northern Arizona University View Entire Review

About

The Oslo program offers the opportunity to live in a city made for outdoor enthusiasts—surrounded by fjords and forests, with numerous sports at your fingertips in every season—while enrolled at the University of Oslo in a range of courses taught in English. You may stay for one semester or a full year and choose from courses in the areas of Scandinavian Studies, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Medicine, Medieval Studies, Middle East Studies, Nordic Languages, Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Education, Law, and Graduate Studies.  Students have the option of taking the 60-hour Introductory Norwegian Language Course or a more intensive 84-hour Level 1 Norwegian Language Course in addition to their normal study program (included in the USAC program fees). Although most people in Norway speak English, we strongly recommend you take advantage of this option, as it will help you to assimilate better into Norwegian life, and you will find that Norwegians appreciate your effort to speak their language. Students begin their stay in Oslo with an on-site orientation to the university and the Oslo region, as well as social activities. At the conclusion of this program, students begin their regular coursework.
