Overall Experience
It was my first real opportunity to live on my own in a city and be responsible for my own meals, shopping, well-being, etc. I gained an extraordinary amount of independence and a real passion for self-guided study. My experience abroad was completely worthwhile. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about independence and providing for myself. I also learned lots in all three of my classes, and from the friends I made. It was very worthwhile. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

Past Review I Love Edinburgh
I had a great time in Edinburgh. I liked that I could direct enroll and go to a new place to study for awhile while getting credits towards my degree. It's a really valuable experience being somewhere new and having to move out of your comfort zone to meet new people and establish your little life there. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I learned a lot about living in a city and studying at a large, international university. I made friends from all around the world. I enjoyed learning about how Scots see the world and how they think society should function. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned so much about how government and politics work in another country. It was definitely worthwhile. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned how to travel- planning and logistical things like how to buy plane tickets and book hostels, how to navigate foreign public transportation, how to travel cheaply. 100% worthwhile. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I had a lovely time in Edinburgh- it's a beautiful city with a lot available to students. Directly enrolling doesn't provide much structure, so study abroad students really are able to shape their own experience, for better or worse. You have to put yourself out there and join groups you're interested in or your experience will ... - Wellesley College View Entire Review

Beyond gaining many new wonderful friends and experiences, one of the biggest things I gained through this program was confidence in my ability to live alone, integrate successfully into new situations and cultures, and make the most out of opportunities, all of which this program challenged me to do. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I learned to be independent and to be a more self-directed learner. With the big lectures and tutorial groups, I learned to stay on top of my schedule and to be more proactive in time management. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It sounds very cliche, but I definitely gained independence from this study abroad trip. Going into it I was excited but also very worried that I would feel lonely, being many miles away from my family and really anyone that I knew. I learned that it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be to make friends and put myself o... - Wellesley College View Entire Review

About

Edinburgh offers a wide range of courses and you will be taught alongside students who enrolled on full degree courses in Edinburgh. We will always try to offer you a place on the courses you choose, but space may be limited in Honours level (3rd year) courses in popular subject areas. If you want to take Honours courses you need to show you have prior knowledge of the subject (a minimum of 3 or 4 University courses in the subject, which you passed with good grades). Meeting these requirements does not guarantee entry to a course, but we will try and offer you a suitable alternative if space is not available.

You can apply online. In addition to your completed application we also require a personal statement, an academic reference (from a faculty member who has taught you at your home institution), and an official transcript from your home institution. Through your online account you can upload supporting documents and track the progress of your application.

Candidates are expected to have a good academic record with a good ‘B’ average (for applicants from North America this translates into a GPA of 3.0 or above).
