I learned so much from this program by taking Humanities abroad. Traveling throughout Greece and Italy with other students from SUNY Geneseo is something that I will never forget. The program would be nothing without the support of the professors and the study abroad office at SUNY Geneseo. Jillian H - SUNY - College at Geneseo View Entire Review
I learned that nothing goes the way you want it to, but sometimes that will work out for the better. I also learned a greater appreciation for history and humanities. Ashley O - SUNY - College at Geneseo View Entire Review

I learned more than any words can explain about my courses, myself, and life in general. This was THE most worthwhile experience I have ever had and I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I truly believe I want to learn more about business & law. As a political science major I was able to see how different governments work & how the masses react to their governments around the world. Now I understand what media tells you is not always the whole story or how it can be changed to make you think of something else. Anthony H - SUNY - College at Geneseo View Entire Review
I learned so much more than humanities and ancient greeks/romans. I learned the culture and a new lifestyle. I made new friends that go to Geneseo and had moments with amazing people (locals) that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I'd go again in a second. A student View Entire Review

I gained a deeper understanding of the immense size of the earth and the large role that each person can play in effect the future of the earth. No matter how small or insignificant a person may feel, it is impossible to not have a direct effect on the world and the people around you who reciprocally effect the people around the... About
Humanities I examines the search for moral, social, and political alternatives and meaning in the institutions, culture, and literature of Western Civilization from its beginnings to 1600. The two-unit elective course examines the philosophical and religious traditions of the ancient near east, Greece, and Rome. Together these courses provide a comprehensive glance at the interplay of the two major currents in the evolution of Western Civilization: Greek rationality and religious faith.
A distinguishing feature of this program is that students taking it are not only made intimate with some of the great works of the period, they also have the unique opportunity to be studying at the corresponding location where the era flourished: students are in Crete during the study of ancient civilizations, in Athens for the classical Greek civilization, in Rome for the Greco-Roman era, in Florence for Medieval times and the Renaissance. The program also is uniquely enhanced with side trips to places that have had a pivotal role in the history of Western Civilization, such as Knossos and Mycenae, with visits to some of the most famous museums in the world, including the Vatican Museum and the Uffizi Gallery, and with tours of renowned local sites like the Acropolis of Athens, the Coliseum of Rome, and the Duomo of Florence. The end result can easily become the education experience of a lifetime.
