My experience was absolutely worthwhile. I learned the importance of embracing other people's cultures and stepping outside my comfort zone. I grew tremendously in a second language and got to immerse myself into a culture that I was not born into. Lauren Hyink - Hope College View Entire Review
Studying abroad and traveling to different cities abroad Europe introduced me to a number of cultures and the differences among them. Interacting with people from all over the world allowed me to develop new perspectives. I also feel as though I have gained a greater sense of self and what direction I want to take my life. I gre... I was able to challenge myself intellectually and socially through the classes I chose to pursue through IES (Histories and Legends of Paris, Sociology of France, Politics and Poetry of Gender in France, The Word and the Image, and French in Context). IES provided a wide array of courses to be taken at the IES Center in addition... Logan Stalter - George Washington University View Entire Review
I learned more about opening up to other cultures, about how to live in an international metropole, and more focus on language skills particularly pronunciation. It was absolutely worthwhile, although sometimes isolating. Etta Lynch-Beaty - Lawrence University View Entire Review

Absolutely. I refined my French skills, met amazing people (locals and Americans), and finally understood l'art de vivre that everyone tells me about. A student - The Catholic University of America View Entire Review
I learned so much. My french got better, and I learned in school, but I learned so much about myself and how to navigate being a person in the world in a way that I want to. It was such a transformative, beautiful experience that I will hold in my heart all my life. Makayla Day - Berea College View Entire Review
I gained so much more than just language skills. I learned how it was to live in a different country, and I adapted my lifestyle to one completely different from what I was used to. Juliana Minasian - DePaul University View Entire Review
I improved my language skills significantly. I immersed myself and gained a much deeper understanding for French culture. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and tried so many new things. I saw so many beautiful sight, monuments and museums, and I got to travel. Erin Savre - St. Olaf College View Entire Review
I learned how to live in a big city away from everyone I've grown up with, my friends from university, my family; I was completely independent and learned how to navigate a huge city, and discovered so much about myself. It was the most worthwhile experience and I strongly encourage everyone to go abroad somewhere! Nadia - Pomona College View Entire Review
Friends, language skills, better understanding of the culture, so much that's it hard to list. It was definitely worthwhile because I feel like I grew so much from the experience. Dani G - Trinity University View Entire Review
I learned a lot from inside the classroom, but I learned even more from the course-related excursions I attended, which allowed me to see more areas and neighborhoods of the city than I would have seen on my own. My French language and comprehension skills were challenged daily, as I communicated with my host family, my profess... A student - Ohio State University - Columbus View Entire Review
Cutural and interpersonal skills. Definitely! Hattie S - DePaul University View Entire Review

I was able to see just a little bit more of the world and the beauty and kindness that exists out there. I was able to go see art that I had only ever read about, visit the graves of Van Gogh, Edith Piaf, Simone de Beauvoir, and I was able to eat fresh bread from a bakery on my way to class. All of these things are memories that... A student - University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill View Entire Review
I gained a much greater appreciation for the importance of experiencing and embracing other cultures and languages. A student - Gettysburg College View Entire Review
I learned that I can live in a big city, if it is one so populated with history and culture as Paris is. I also learned how to be more spontaneous, to not worry so much about what plan I had for my day, week, or life in general. My trip was absolutely worthwhile. Alaina Jacobsen - Whitman College View Entire Review
Learned more French, gained insight to French culture, explored the wonderful city of Paris, explored Europe. A student - Trinity University View Entire Review
I not only gained a greater understanding of daily culture in France and in the capitol, but am now compelled to soon return and live in Paris or another large french city. I also gained a lot of language and arts experience when interning each week with a modern and contemporary art gallery, with which I connected through IES. I learned many things. I learned to be much more independent, to take care of myself, to enjoy time, to understand better different cultures. Andrea G - Trinity University View Entire Review

By the end, I felt so comfortable speaking French and now I really feel like I can say I am fluent in French. Choosing a program with classes all in French was a great decision and a great way to improve my language abilities. Living abroad in a big city also pushed me out of my comfort zone, as well as having an internship wher... Jennifer - Miami University View Entire Review
Not only did my ability to speak French improved tremendously, but I also became more confident in both traveling and immersing myself in a foreign culture. Overall, IES was an amazing experience. The cliche saying 'study abroad changed my life,' is true. While I found the classes to be rather dull at times, the other aspects of the program compensated greatly. The planned program excursions and dinners were educational, fun, and a great way to meet the other students. I found t... Hayley P - Pomona College View Entire Review

I learned how to navigate a new city on my own: transportation, food, attractions. I gained friends I wouldn't have met anywhere else. It was totally outside my comfort zone, and I'm so glad I pushed myself. Emma N - University of Nebraska - Lincoln View Entire Review
