Overall Experience
I saw so much of Europe and the number one thing I wanted to do when I was there was travel. It was definitely worthwhile and I'll never forget it! - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Everyone should study abroad if they can. By experiencing another culture you gain the tools and alternative perspective to re-evaluate your own culture. I feel like I could hold an intelligent conversation with your average Dane about Danish Politics and Society, in addition to the other subjects I studied. And the traveling pr... - Villanova University View Entire Review
Yes, very worthwhile! Denmark is different in a good way. It took awhile for this to sink in. DIS study experience is more a keystone realization of another, valid world of ideas, values and people. - University of North Carolina - Charlotte View Entire Review
Past Review Life Changing!
Able to travel alone, meet new people, test myself in new situations, be mature and responsible. - Providence College View Entire Review
I gained a more well rounded / international perspective about the way people see the world. Also, I now better understand the cultures differences between the attitudes of Americans versus Danes. - Tulane University View Entire Review
Every moment was worth it. It is incredible to think of my time living in Copenhagen, experiencing the culture, meeting new people, and adapting to the European way of life. I gained travel experience, confidence, appreciation for the simple things, new friendships, a brighter outlook on the future and over all I think I reall... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

Past Review Family For Life!
Gained insight into myself, gained friends for life, and learned about other cultures more than even just Denmark. VERY WORTHWHILE! - Austin College View Entire Review
I gained so much confidence when I went abroad. I traveled for the most part on my own and decided to make it a semester of me. I did what I wanted, went where I wanted to go and explored whenever I felt like it. I returned to the US knowing myself better and with a greater understanding of what I wanted to do with my education ... - American University View Entire Review
It was definitely worth it. I learned to be more confident in myself. It helped me to realize that I do want to follow on the career I am on. - Randolph College View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with DIS - Danish Institute for Study Abroad: Copenhagen - Various Programs
I learned so many things inside and outside the classroom. My core course in Medical Practice and Policy confirmed my decision to pursue medicine as a career. I learned how to navigate a city and public transportation by myself, as well as, branching out and meeting a variety of other students. The experience was something I ... - University of North Dakota View Entire Review
I learned a lot about what I wanted out of life and how I fit into the world. I am now on a completely different path than I was before I studied abroad, and I owe part of that to my experience at DIS. It definitely taught me some very worthwhile life lessons. - Macalester College View Entire Review
Living in Copenhagen is entirely different from living here. I miss walking or taking trains/buses everywhere and seeing the people everywhere. I learned so much from my core course (Human Health and Disease) and other courses, and was able to travel more regularly than I ever dreamed possible. I wish I could go back - University of California - San Diego View Entire Review
Past Review It Was Okay.
Ya. I never want to live in Copenhagen. It was ok. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Very worthwhile, I became more cultural and worldly and open to new experiences and ways of life. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
This is a tough one to sum up, but here it goes. I learned a lot about myself and who I want to be as a grown responsible member of society. I also learned that America isn't the only cool place on Earth, and other people live very different lives but are still very happy. To me Denmark is the utopia I wish we could have here... - Villanova University View Entire Review
Past Review Incomplete
I learned that "the happiest people on earth" is a hilarious facade maintained by Denmark to ensure that their tourism industry thrives. I understand now why the Nordic countries have such a high suicide rate. - Providence College View Entire Review
I learned so much about a culture with which I had previously been extemely unfamiliar. I felt so immersed in the culture by the end of my study abroad experience. All of the traveling that you do as a part of your program gave me the knowledge and confidence to do independent travel after the program. Copenhagen is an incred... - University of Rochester View Entire Review

I learned a lot of about my own culture, Europe, and a lot about myself. I even fell in love! It was an amazing experience, and I wish I could've stayed longer! - Tulane University View Entire Review

I was able to have more hands on a practical experience in my field that I ever would at an American college. There was a great variety of classes. - Villanova University View Entire Review
It was fantastic. I became more independent and I met like-minded individuals. - Mount Holyoke College View Entire Review
Past Review Hyggelig!
Everything... I'm a completely different person and I don't think any person would argue with that. I appreciate life, love, friendships, family, everything so much more than ever before. It truly made me look at my life and where my future is headed in a new light. - Philadelphia University View Entire Review
Independence, comfort living in a foreign culture (not just traveling, but really living), a solid understanding of my future career path through the classes I took, some of my best friends, and a Danish family for life! - Pacific Lutheran University View Entire Review
Where to start... Independence, how to work in a group setting, how to conduct research, how to travel/navigating a European city, European perspective on business, politics, history, interviewing skills, time management, etc. Worthwhile - uh, for sure - DePauw University View Entire Review

DIS - Study Abroad Scholarships

This merit-based award honors a beloved former DIS faculty member, Jacob Buksti, who passed away in 2016.
