I learned my independence and gained memories that will change my life forever. I've made great friends and even great networking connections. I'd do it all over again if I could. Shanique Reid - University of Hartford View Entire Review
I learned that there are no many differences in culture. I also learned that programs not in the US were very rigorous. It was very worthwhile because I loved my time there. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about the power of black women and I was able to really examine parts of myself that I didn't consider exploring. I also gained wonderful life-long friends and this program was worth it. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review

The ability to take things as they come and be less impatient. Very worthwhile. Ben W - Clark University - Worcester View Entire Review
It was worthwhile. I learned a lot about a culture completely different than my own and learned a lot about myself in the process, especially being able to grow and adapt to new situations. Shannon C - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
I learned about Ghanaian culture and the whole West African way of life. Very worthwhile, because coming East Africa I did not know what to expect. Deborah M - Trinity University View Entire Review
This trip was 10000% worth while. I loved every bit of it from the new friends, the nights spent dancing, classes, joining sports teams, meeting international students. It was a great experience. I learned to appreciate a different way of life, a slower pace which was very relaxing. A student - Cornell University View Entire Review
This was the best decision I've made in my life. It turned my world view upside-down, shook my roots in the best way possible, improved my musicianship, broadened my horizon in every sense, and set the course of my future straight. Jason W - Tulane University View Entire Review
Yes, absolutely. It made me so much more self-confident, I got first-hand exposure to the challenges of development and working in the developing world, and my internship exposed me to an issue, electronic waste, that I was not aware of but that I've now pursued back in the US and am writing my senior thesis on. Being in Ghana really made me appreciate life and see what is really important. Children in Ghana have so little, yet they are so happy. The people are welcoming, helpful, and generous. People always take the time to stop and chat on the streets with acquaintances. In the U.S., people can go a whole day without another human int... A student View Entire Review
I learned a lot from Ghanaian locals about current events and political/economic issues that Ghana is facing. I also learned the same thing from African francophones. I do think it was worthwhile since I talked to people from all over the world while being in my dorm. Keisha Jean-Charles - Wellesley College View Entire Review
To spend a semester in a less-conventional destination and gain intercultural experiences there were eye-opening. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Since I am Ghanaian, I was able to reconnect with my country after being away for almost two decades. Although there times when I felt like a guest in my home, there were plenty of times where I felt at home and grateful to CIEE for having a program site in Ghana. I learned that there is no and never will be a place like home. I... Vennesa Duodu - Brandeis University View Entire Review
To see that the western perspective on Africa is not correct. Ghana is not what is shown on TV with sick children and poverty, it is beautiful. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I would say that my experience was worthwhile. Even though my experiences in Ghana were uncomfortable, they have allowed me to exist and learn from being a minority. I have never felt in the minority, besides when it comes to my religion, which happens frequently to me. i know that I have no idea what it is like to be someone i... I learned how to handle myself in a completely foreign place where I knew no one; how to adapt to a new environment; and how to immerse myself in a new culture while reserving any judgments I may have previously made. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
The most important thing that you can learn from CIEE Ghana is the culture of Ghana. Come in ready to experience and be part of something completely different than what you are used to. You will be eating different food, talking to people with really different perspectives and experiences, traveling to really different places ... It grounded all of the studies that I have done, and gave me some ideas about what I want to do in the future, too! I stay in touch with several friends and cannot wait to go back! Morgan B - Grinnell College View Entire Review
My study abroad experience was most definitely worthwhile! Though many aspects of my time abroad were challenging, I gained insight into a more global perspective and learned how to relate to people of diverse cultures. The experiences I had in Ghana have fueled my desire to return to developing African nations in the future a... Kierstin H - University of Rochester View Entire Review
My study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. I am more culturally aware but I didn't have the best academic experience. More importantly, I learned so much about myself and did start to question my academic interests. Zakiyyah S - Wellesley College View Entire Review
