I didn’t know what to expect when I stepped off the plane in Beijing, signaling the start of my study abroad experience, but IES Beijing made the transition smooth and easy and created one of the most exciting experiences of my life to date. The weeklong orientation was not only extremely helpful in adjusting (especially with je... - Wake Forest University View Entire Review
I gained significant language competency and confidence in my language ability. Not only that, but I also gained a better understanding of Chinese culture. 100% worthwhile. - Hamline University View Entire Review

Definitely a learning experience. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
I learned so much Chinese and learned a lot about being in a huge Chinese city. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. It was a completely new experience, trying to get the most out of just eight weeks, especially during an "intensive" scholastic program. I got to see and experience an entirely different culture and learn a new language enough to be proficient. Making time to travel was difficult, and I definitely s... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned a lot more Chinese and had a deep look into Chinese culture. I learned a lot about the people and Chinese society in general. It was definitely worthwhile. Everyone I was with enjoyed the program, although some had difficulty with the classes. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
While I'm far from fluent, the program definitely helped to improve and give me more confidence in speaking Chinese since my experience with Chinese has been mainly in the classroom. So being in a country where the language and culture is so different made me more outgoing and confident in my own abilities. Also, making friends ... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and how I handle different situations in very different places. I would probably go with a program more oriented towards what I was looking for but overall my trip to China was awesome and I would definitely do it again...just a little different. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Extremely worthwhile. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. Seeing and experiencing the inside of the great Chinese culture. China is an old civilization with plenty of history and in the same time it becomes so modern and grows economically everyday. Very interesting place to be ! INTO China program has given me a lifetime experience, which I will remember ... View Entire Review

I learned a lot about my dad's culture (He's chinese) and even more about the culture. This was huge for me, being a dual heritage kid. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Going abroad, immersing yourself in a new culture and language, getting out of your comfort zone--all of these things are always worthwhile. But this program in particular is awesome. If you are serious about learning Chinese, then IES Beijing needs to be on your shortlist. - Trinity University View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with Beijing Foreign Studies University: Beijing - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
It was completely worthwhile. Being thrown into a culture completely different from that of America's is something that can't be easily described. All the amazing things you will see and do, combined with the complexity of the culture and the simplicity of the local lifestyles is something everyone should try at least once if ... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned how to better communicate cross-culturally, as well as laugh at myself a lot. I also learned to be patient with foreign languages, as fluency will not come overnight. Everything I learned abroad was completely worth it. - Davidson College View Entire Review
My time abroad was very worthwhile, one of the best decisions I've made. My language skills did improve while I was there. I think one of the best things I found was that I didn't realize how much I learned until the end of the semester. In addition, I've created and maintained valuable friendships. - Skidmore College View Entire Review
Going on the language intensive program, I definitely gained confidence in Chinese. However, more than the language, the experience was valuable because of the people that I met and the exposure to a culture and society that shaped how I thought about things and the direction I want to head in in terms of future goals and career... - Northwestern University View Entire Review
Definitely gained incredible use of language and got to see a lot of really cool things! It was absolutely worthwhile, but you have to make it your own and put yourself out there, be willing to adventure! - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Past Review Life Changing
I gained an experience I will never forget. And even though I think my language skills didn't improve that much I would still live it over again because it was just that fantastic. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
This was 100% worth my time. Learning Chinese is not something you can simply do in the confines of your University Campus, I suggest go abroad. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
On the surface, I learned more than I ever hoped for about Chinese language, culture, history, politics, and international relations--and loved all of it! On a deeper level, I gained tremendous self-confidence from living in a foreign country with a host family that I could never have experienced in the United States. - Villanova University View Entire Review

Past Review I Love Beijing
My Chinese improved so quickly and dramatically I still haven't processed the idea that I seriously would spend days and days without speaking a word of English. I am planning to try to recreate many of the dishes I got to taste in China over the next semester because it was so healthy and delicious. I was homesick a lot of the ... - Trinity University View Entire Review
Not only did my language skills improve, but being a foreigner in China gave me a lot of opportunities to teach others about America. I was able to be a proud ambassador for the United States. I also learned that the media and history books paint us all as completely different people; but even in China, high school boys will ha... - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
I have such a better understanding and appreciation for all Asian cultures. I am still discovering things that I visited or saw in China that I didn't understand at the time, but have such amazing significance to history or the world today. - Austin College View Entire Review
Was it worthwhile? Ridiculous. It was worth every last second. I learned how feel comfortable chatting in Chinese with complete strangers, bargain like no other, and to take things in stride, both the surprising, shocking, and extraordinary, and take none of it for granted. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Past Review Unexplainable
So worthwhile, I learned more than anyone could possibly learn by just studying China. Those two weeks were some of the best of my whole life. - Ithaca College View Entire Review
