"My experience abroad was definitely worthwhile - being in a different country and having the chance to travel was priceless and an experience I'll always remember. My particular bad experience with the program made me realize I need to research more into programs before I choose one, but I don't regret the whole trip (just the p..."

"A girlfriend, friends, language, love for a new culture"
Ricardo E The University of Texas at Austin
"Even if something seems really hard and stressful, if you really think you can do it, you'll do it. It was definitely worthwhile."
Mary A The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned that we (people from all over the world) think the same. "
simhyun91 The University of Texas at Austin
"My time abroad was awesome. By doing a direct enrollment in a rather isolated part of the world, you really learn to fend for yourself. Unlike being in a program, your friends aren't chosen for you. You really have to be outgoing and immerse yourself in order to make friends. Luckily for me, my classes were small and interactive..."
Vicky W The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned that anything different is not weird, it's only, different. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"Don't expect foreign people to know your customs and expectations or even respect them. Worthwhile to be able to travel and live in a different country. "
monica.jml The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned that many overseas schools are run very differently than US schools and it is easier to meet local when you live in a local area, not on or near campus"
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"Yes. I think I need a month or two more to really master the language though"
Jennifer V The University of Texas at Austin

"I learned about and became fascinated with Swedish History, and was able to research aspects of Swedish history that contributed to my own research at home. Everything I learned about Swedish culture was worthwhile."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned how to live with someone who was horrible to live with. I have not had an experience like that before. I also learned how to be very independent and to keep myself busy."

Jessica S The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned so much more about myself and had the opportunity to travel more than I ever have been able to. Yes, I was frustrated with spanish sometimes and anxious about being around so many Americans, but overall it was an amazing experience to live/learn in such a beautiful country. "
ELYSSE A The University of Texas at Austin
"How to be more independent and less fearful of anxiety-filled situations or the unknown; I gained friendships with people from all over the world."
Faith I The University of Texas at Austin
"It was a very worthwhile experience. Even though my courses were demanding I would do it all over again. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"How important it is plan and design travel plans for the region before you depart. It is cheap to travel in SE Asia so take advantage of that. Also be prepared for many group projects, and be aware that kids from different cultures have different study habits."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned time management, how to be more independent and use my resources."
Tiara F The University of Texas at Austin
"I am very flexible and adaptable. I can live without hot water and air conditioning. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I'm very glad I got the chance to encounter a culture both different and similar to my own. I'd never been alone in a country where I knew no one, so you're really thrown into the deep end and forced to seek out what you want to experience. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"i would go back only if I was only traveling. "
Bryson H The University of Texas at Austin
"The best part was making friends from all over the world and learning from them. That aspect was definitely worthwhile, but the academic part was terrible."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"While I enjoyed the being in the country experience, I was really dissatisfied with the schooling."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"My experience was incredibly worthwhile and I learned to be more confident and culturally aware than I was when I arrived. I discussed politics and culture with all sorts of people and learned not to judge books by their cover. I speak French more easily now and have seen many many beautiful places because of my time abroad."
