"I learned that I love Middlebury. It was worthwhile in the sense that it solidified my choice in attending a small liberal arts college. "

"Learned about myself and gained a more complete cultural perspective."

"I learned Portuguese. "
A student Middlebury College
"It was worthwhile only because I learned so much about myself and how to deal with sadness/homesickness/isolation/anxiety. I've never felt those feelings in such depth until this experience and now I think I have a better way to live my life going forward by only choosing things that will make me happy. "

"Being abroad is extraordinary and challenging. Being in Ghana was amazing. But we had so many problems with our program: corruption, absent academic director, extreme discomfort in homestays, racism, insensitive dialgoue about sexual assault, an extremely poorly designed academic program. However, it was so wonderful to go live ..."

"I gained an understanding of the world around me but felt very trapped on the island. "

"I learned to enjoy solitude. Most of the people I met in my dorm were not really concerned about anything that I was concerned about. People at the school were not very engaged in their program of study so I spent most of my time by myself. I suppose that is important. "
A student Middlebury College
"I learned how to be independent and travel on my own. It was not worthwhile at all. I did not enjoy my semester there and wish I didn't go. I think Middlebury has this culture where everyone is pushed to study abroad because "you will regret it if you don't" but honestly it's hard for me to believe everyone loves it that much. I..."

"I learned so much about language and culture."
A student Middlebury College
"I learned about navigating a foreign country that felt familiar in ethnic culture, but was completely unfamiliar to me. "
A student Middlebury College
"I learned a great deal about countries that were not England, as I only interacted with international students all semester. That was certainly the most rewarding aspect of the semester, and I am so glad I had the chance to study abroad for that reason. Did not learn a great deal in my classes. Became much better at managing log..."

"I was able to grow my language proficiency in some classes but a lot were disappointing and upsetting. The admin causes such horrible problems that create overwhelmingly deplorable and traumatic experiences for students. It was not worth it! Please avoid SOAS if you can!"
A student Middlebury College
"I would like to spend more time abroad, just not in this program/country."
Joseph P Middlebury College
"I gained incredible time management as well as writing skills. I also gained a huge amount of resilience and self-confidence. "
A student Middlebury College
"Yes, it will be worthwhile when I am older, but it was very difficult. "
A student Middlebury College
"Regarding the above question, if I would choose the same program: While I did not enjoy this program and felt fiercely opposed to this country's policies, I am not sure that I would choose a different program. While perhaps another program would have been less devastating, it would have been so because I wouldn't have been so ex..."

"My Spanish language skills improved."
A student Middlebury College
"In all honesty. Marseille-incredible, AUCP-not. I value the experience because I learned how to put up with disagreeable situations for an extended period of time. Not worthwhile. This program is In need of serious reflection and adjustment on the part of the administration to better serve its own goals."
A student Middlebury College
"I don't feel I gained much. What I learned I could have taught myself at home. I enjoyed the travelling and site seeing. I have been struggling to figure out if it was worth it. "
Sophia Leiter Middlebury College
"i learned how to schedule and execute my own travel itineraries and how to live in an apartment and cook"
A student Middlebury College
"This experience taught me that I’m more resilient than I thought and that I can roll with many, many punches. It was transformative, but not in the ways I had expected or hoped for. I return with a newfound appreciation for the US and for Middlebury. "
A student Middlebury College
"Had to learn to be by myself for long periods of time. Probably not"
A student Middlebury College
"I learned how to rely on myself."
A student Middlebury College
"Culturally, I learned and enjoyed a lot. Academically, it was not remotely worth it."
