Tufts Programs Abroad: Tufts in Madrid

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Definitely! I made new friends with great people at Tufts, I lived with a family who was so warm and open to learn about new cultures, and I got to live and be a 'citizen' of a country that I had only visited before.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was great to attend the university because it really helped with our Spanish. The classes at the program center were really great and if I could have, I would have taken more there.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

If I had to suggest a study abroad program to anyone here, I would highly recommend that they go through Tufts. Our program really took care of the students and were there for whatever we needed. Joan and Angel really took as in as well as the other workers at the program.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My family was great! I had parents, two siblings and a dog. They live in a house close to the Bernebeu Stadium which is about a 20 minute bus ride to the center.

* Food:

My 'mom' always had food ready that I liked. Although we're only suppoesd to eat two meals there, she always wanted me to stay for the third meal.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The trips that I did on my own around Spain were great and the program center has all the resources to place something like that.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I did get robbed once, and they helped me get in touch with the police and file a report.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Probably aroudn $80 on food a week and at least $20 for fun.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?
