The Intern Group: Melbourne Internship Placement Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The internship has helped me in my job pursuit back home, but that is the least of my gains. I met some amazing people and made some great friends that I have remained in touch with and who live across the globe. I built worldwide connections and also got to experience what Australia had to offer, and it did not disappoint.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The internship itself, other interns and living in Australia all contributed towards an amazing learning experience for me.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

A program leader was almost always available to contact if there were any questions we had about the program.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The accommodation was a very comfortable place to live with good facilities, such as a gym. However, the accommodation is about a 30 minute journey from Melbourne CBD.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

One of the program leaders, Dylan, organised various social events which gave us all a great feel of what goes on in Australia. Without Dylan, we would not have been aware of some great places to visit during our time in Melbourne and we would not have felt as intergrated with the local culture.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I personally had no health problems, but if there were any problems a program leader could point you in the right direction.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

It is unlikely that I would do the program again, but that is because of the career path that the experience has helped to open up for me. It was an incredible experience and I would be more than happy to do it all over.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

To get the most out of your experience you will spend a bit of money. Intern Australia include some great events for interns to attend, but going out and seeing places yourself is a great part of the experience and, unfortunately, this will cost you some more money.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150-$200 per week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I worked long hours the previous summer to make some money, but if I could've done anything differently I would've got a part time job at university to give me some more money for Australia.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
