About

Water-related diseases produced by lack of access to potable water and sanitation are responsible for the death of 1.8 million people a year, most of them children under the age of five. Needless to say, improving water, sanitation and hygiene practices is a public health imperative. This field study takes you into rural communities in which water projects are being implemented to try to reduce the incidence of water-related diseases. You learn, first hand, how to test water to make sure that it is safe for human consumption and how people are addressing the problem at the household level. For a more complete overview on this field study you can watch videos from #WaSHDR2016 or #WaSHDR2015, and/or read this Rollins 360 article.
