From living on my own in a foreign country, I gained A LOT of independence. From paying rent to riding the public transportation to going to the emergency room, I gained a lot of valuable adult skills that I would not have otherwise developed at Middlebury. I also developed a lot of important travel skills, like flexibility and ... - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I improved my French language skills. I learned a lot about myself and about French culture. Overall, I suppose it was worthwhile for the improved French language skills, however I was so stressed the entire time that my mental health suffered significantly. - Cornell University View Entire Review

About

Designed for students at an advanced level of French, the Middlebury C.V. Starr School in France provides opportunities to experience Poitiers- a quintessential French town with a strong university and student culture.

Conveniently located between Paris and Bordeaux- only an hour and a half by TGV (Train de grand vitesse) from either- the cobblestone city of Poitiers is the capital of the Poitou-Charentes region, close to La Rochelle and Ile de Ré, and beyond the major tourist attractions of the Loire valley. Once the haunting ground of Eleanor of Aquitaine, and home to both medieval cloisters and the ultra modern Futuroscope park, Poitiers is a blend of the ancient and contemporary.

Students enroll directly in a broad range of disciplines at the University of Poitiers, taking all courses entirely in French. The university was was founded in the fifteenth century and enrolls approximately 28,000 students who comprise one quarter of the city's population. Housing - with local families or in residences - is geared to provide students with an immersion in the language and culture outside of the classroom.
