I learned about Italian culture and fell in love with it. I gained Italian language skills which I no longer use but certainly helped in learning other languages. I now teach English abroad and I often reflect on my time spent in Tuscania as the best language learning situation I have experienced. About
Istituto Lorenzo de' Medici invites you to study abroad in Tuscania, a hilltop town located in the Lazio region of central Italy, part of the breathtaking countryside of the Maremma coastlands! Ancient Etruscan ruins are surrounded by cultivated fields, abundant orchards, rows of olive trees, lush vineyards and fragrant fields of lavender - unforgettable scenery that offers the ever-changing charm of a landscape which boasts a brilliant color palette throughout the seasons.
LdM Tuscania is often described as a very warm campus where students easily get to know one another as well as the faculty and staff. All classrooms and student facilities are housed in one large building that is nestled inside medieval walls that encircle the tranquil town. Owing to Tuscania’s smaller size and its unique geography, students can live and study in a typical Italian environment, while interacting closely with the local community. LdM students maximize study-life balance because Tuscania makes the perfect base for a great range of cultural and outdoor recreational activities.
LdM Tuscania's curriculum instructs students in the arts, agricultural sciences, Italian language, and culinary arts - all in a fully immersed environment. Courses are orchestrated to embrace the historical, artistic, and cultural heritage that is wholly unique to the town of Tuscania and the surrounding region. The beautiful landscape and its bounty, from vegetable gardens to centuries-old olive groves, provide the foundation for the courses in Agricultural Studies, Nutrition, and Gastronomy. The Italian language in Tuscania, less tainted with foreign influences than in the big cities, provides the perfect context for a complete and engaging learning experience. Tuscania’s roots in Etruscan, Roman, and medieval history guide courses in Art History and Archaeology.
Courses are also offered in: Ancient Studies; Anthropology; International Business; Communications; Environmental Studies and Geography; History; Literature; Philosophy; Psychology; Religious Studies; Sociology; Writing; Film and Media Arts; Painting, Drawing, and Mixed Media; Performing Arts; and Photography.
