My only regret was not developing an accent! Past Review

ISA Study Abroad in Gold Coast, Australia

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study abroad experience was so worthwhile. I feel like I grew as an individual just being in another country fending for myself, cooking, going to school, and traveling. The people I met were amazing and some connections I will have into the future. I was so happy to be able to see the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Opera house, take in the Australian fashion, and even watch a rugby game for two. It was an amazing experience I wouldn't trade for the world.

Personal Information

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were different but were worthwhile.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

IT was very well put together and helped us with a relaxed entrance to our new home.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was clean and had enough room for myself for the four months. The bathroom was nice and they provided plates, pots, ect.

* Food:

I did not have a meal plan at the school but rather would dine out in nearby Market Square or occasionally on campus as well as cook meals at the apartment.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My friends and I did a lot of traveling while abroad. We visited Brisbane for some rugby games. We went out in Surfer's Paradise on pub crawls with Plan B. Also traveled to Whitsunday Islands, Sydney for halloween, and Fraser Island thanks to the help of Student FLights located right on campus to put trips and flights together.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Upon arriving I was bitten by a beach bug which left my skin polka-doted, the nurse and doctor on campus were able to let me know what it was and gave me treatment immediately.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Money goes very quickly while studying abroad. No matter how much I said I would not go shopping and eat out all the time, when you are away traveling for the weekend money sure does add up. I spent about $3000 total, so a couple hundred a month while i was there. This also incldued money spent on trips and plane fare.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I now know some new Australian lingo that I didn't before. I only wish I could have developed an accent to bring home!

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? GO! This was the best decision I ever made to get out of Connecticut and begin an adventure on another continent! There are times when you feel like you miss home but the people you meet and the places you are able to see are simply amazing.
