Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Email responses were unprofessional, information was late (told students that if they arrived before a certain date, they wouldn't be allowed to move in early, except they sent this email 2 weeks before the program began), and just generally unorganized. They made students pay to be picked up from the airport, except the bus driver from Hanyang University didn't know where to go. In addition, they made an error on a document needed for the alien registration card. When I went to ask for help, no one in the administration spoke English. Although I knew how to speak enough Korean, I don't know how other students in my situation who don't know Korean could've explained it.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Be careful of people telling you to come see their event to teach foreigners about Korean culture. They are ALL scams that force you to give them money.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

The whole administration is a mess and was enough to ruin the program for me.

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Intermediate
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Intermediate 2 Korean at Korea University
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Go to language exchange and don't be afraid to talk in class.
