It was a fantastic experience overall. I fell in love with the country, the films, and with a girl, with whom I am now planning on living. In fact, I almost didn't leave there in July. Ilya P - Emerson College View Entire Review

About
Emerson College offers a rewarding and unique film experience in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. One of the finest cities in Europe, Prague lies in the heart of Europe. Rich in history, culture and beauty, Prague's attractions and landmarks will be the classroom for students' learning and experiences. Students will study on the campus of the Academy of Performing Arts for Film and Television (FAMU), one of the top three film schools on the European Continent.
This four-week program offers students 8 credits of undergraduate or graduate coursework. The first course is a film studies course on the history and development of Czech and Slovak cinema with emphasis on the Czech New Wave, one of the most influential film movements of the post World War II era. Special tours and lectures are planned at Barrandov Studio's Jiri Trinka animation studios and additional discussions will feature Czech film directors. Past guest speakers have included Jiri Menzel, Jaromil Jires, Alice Nellis, Jiri Barta and Jan Nemec. In addition, lectures are scheduled with film historians Dr. Michal Bregant, Dean of FAMU, and Dr. Jan Bernard and cinematography professor Michal Gahut.
The second course in Cinematic Language is a production course which involves an intensive, weeklong lighting and cinematography workshop on a sound stage and the scripting, casting, location scouting, acting, shooting, directing and editing of a 5 to 7 minute DV production. Students will be evaluated by FAMU and Emerson College faculty as they are given an intensive experience in production, scripting and editing at the Academy.
An Emerson College faculty member will supervise students in their academic studies and travel. Travel is a meaningful part of the educational experience in this program. Students will attend the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, as well as tour the historic North Bohemian district.
