My Arabic speaking and listening skills improved immensely, especially my Jordanian dialect. I gained a lot of personal confidence, both in using my Arabic in the city and dealing with situations where I had to stand up for myself. I also made some amazing friends, since the students attracted to this program tend to be super in... Emily E - Barnard College View Entire Review

It was absolutely worthwhile. I learned what life is. Katlin F - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained not only language skills, but the confidence to use them with anyone. I gained a lot of independence while over there. I had been exposed to other cultures before, but my semester gave me a whole new perspective on the world and made me want to make a difference. I also gained a lot of new friends from my program. Rocío R - Indiana University - Bloomington View Entire Review
I feel one hundred times more aware of global happenings--especially in the Middle East. My language skills are worlds better. Not to mention, the experience will certainly help me in my future job hunt. Erin M - Trinity University View Entire Review
I gained a beginners grasp of the Arabic language. A much greater understanding of Arab and Muslim culture and how they view the rest of the world. I got to see many places that few Americans will ever travel to; Beirut and Damascus for example. I would be very interested in a return visit either to work or visit. Spencer L - University of Rochester View Entire Review
While I did not like the insane amount of work, not everyone had that experience and this program was definitely worth it. I improved my language skills and met some amazing people. I got some traveling in and I got to live in and understand another culture. Ariel S - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
About
Take your Arabic skills to the next level in Amman, the most populous city of Jordan and the country’s economic, political, and cultural center. Those with advanced Arabic skills take a combination of language, history, and literature courses taught in Arabic at CIEE Amman. You can also make strides in language learning by volunteering at local schools in a rural community or Amman-based organizations that work with underserved communities. During the program, students agree to speak only Arabic to encourage language and cultural acquisition.
All courses are complemented with CIEE co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city to enhance classroom learning and provide intercultural understanding.
