Irish Adventures Past Review

By (Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/15/2017 to 05/21/2017 with

Arcadia: Dublin - University College Dublin

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Going abroad was definitely worthwhile. Most of the experience i had to pay for myself, which made it more worthwhile to know i had earned my trip. Also the confidence i gained and knowledge to know i could get myself around on my own was invaluable.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

the program was there when we needed it and put on various events for students to help foster community within the program. However, when it came to travel we had to fill out forms so they knew where we were but then during an attack in London some students who had filled out forms were not looked in on.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It was really nice to have your own room, bathroom and a shared kitchen space.

* Food:

We didn't have meal plans so i cooked for myself.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was a little difficult to meet Irish kids because the international kids were grouped together. s

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had a doctor at the health center prescribe me medication for the flu that I had told her i was allergic to, however when I went back and talked to another physician she second was very helpful and understanding. Also I sent in my reimbursement form to HTH and never got anything back.

* Safety:

I think Dublin is one of the safest cities in Europe. I felt very safe on campus and once i got to know Dublin, equally safe there.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I loved Ireland and would go back in a heart beat. It gave me everything i needed in an abroad experience and helped me to be more independent and comfortable being on my own.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Groceries and an irish phone plan were both extremely cheap and made saving money for travelling much easier.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 1500
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Cut corners on food, i found cutting down snacking and dessert and those compulsive trips to the convenience store on campus saved me money in the long run.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
