Shenandoah University offers a diverse array of study abroad programs designed to provide students with immersive global experiences that complement their academic pursuits. Through the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange, students can participate in semester-long exchanges, short-term faculty-led programs, and unique initiatives that promote cultural understanding and personal growth.

One of the university's hallmark programs is the Global Citizenship Project (GCP), which annually selects 50 students, faculty, and staff for an all-expenses-paid, weeklong trip to various international destinations during spring break. Participants apply without knowing their destination, fostering adaptability and openness to new experiences. The GCP aims to remove barriers to international travel and inspire participants to pursue further global learning opportunities.

In addition to the GCP, Shenandoah offers Global Experiential Learning (GEL) programs—short-term, faculty-led study abroad experiences that occur during spring, summer, or winter breaks. These programs allow students to earn academic credit while engaging deeply with different cultures and global issues.
For students seeking semester or year-long experiences, Shenandoah maintains partnerships with institutions worldwide, including the University of Winchester in England, Audencia Business School in France, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London. As a member of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), the university provides access to a global network of over 300 universities, expanding the range of available study abroad opportunities.

Furthermore, Shenandoah has partnered with Toucan Education Programs in Belize, serving as the School of Record for Toucan's summer programs. This collaboration enables students to earn academic credit through courses focusing on sustainable development, natural resource tourism, and cultural learning, thereby enriching their educational experience with practical, real-world applications.

Through these comprehensive programs, Shenandoah University demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering global citizenship, cultural competence, and academic excellence among its students.
