"Studying abroad on this program was absolutely worthwhile. For me, this program had everything I was looking for- a program focused solely on European matters, a way to practice my German language, and a chance to cross off many places on my travel bucket list- and I was lucky to meet some of my new best friends in the process. ..."
Mia D George Washington University
"My speaking ability definitely improved, I got to know the city very well, and I learned much more about French culture than I ever did in a French class."
Nila M Brandeis University

"My four months in Granada were some of the best months of my life and not for all the reasons you would expect. Of course Granada made it rather easy for me to become part of a new culture, not merely understand it, learn a new language, not solely speak it but love it, make new friends but also keep the bonds that bound. I love..."
A student Colorado College
"All I can think about now that I'm back is all of the places I want to go back to or have added to my list of places to travel. I also made some of my best friends during those five months who I know I will stay in touch with for years to come. Living on my own in another country was hands down the best decision I've ever made -..."
Victoria C Texas Christian University
"Being the only student from my university on this program, I was incredibly nervous going into the experience. However, the decision to study abroad with the Santiago program was the best decision I made. My program included 21 students from various universities across the nation, allowing me to meet people I would not have met ..."
Joanne J University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
"The IES program in Amsterdam was the most incredible thing I could have ever imagined. I know that always sounds cheesy to say, but there is no other way to describe it. I made some of the greatest friends I could have ever asked for, I was immersed in the culture, and I even learned some Dutch. But one of the most valuable thin..."
Matthew M Pennsylvania State University - University Park / Penn State
"I gained an appreciation for other cultures and loved of history"
Janey A Wofford College
"The decision to study abroad was, for me, sort of an agonizing decision. I'm sure lots of people decide when and where they're going to study abroad before they even pick their college, but in my case, I barely got my forms submitted in time because I was debating it for so long. Part of the issue for me is that I'm an athlete (..."
Sawyer H Anonymous University
"I gained a lifelong experience of learning about a different culture, people, food, and history. My experience abroad has provided me with the tools and experience to be a better public health professional in the future, as well as a better person with a different perspective. "
Kiara C University of Rochester

Adri D Rice University
"Cutural and interpersonal skills. Definitely!"

"As an engineering student, I loaded up on credits early on to make the opportunity of life abroad a reality. Like most engineers the options were limited, and as soon as Madrid was on the table I snatched it up and have yet to look back. Before the program, I had traveled to one other country and had a college career filled with..."
Hayley G University of Maryland - College Park
"Being thrown into an entirely new culture with a distinct language and customs helped me learn to take risks and jump into things headfirst. I was able to improve my language skills, live with a wonderful Spanish family, meet new friends and soak up all of the music, culture and tapas that Spain had to offer. It was absolutely w..."
N. R Pennsylvania State University - University Park / Penn State
"Language skills - I went in with an advanced level of Spanish, and I left with an even more advanced level. I have trouble saying I'm fluent because I don't understand where to draw the line. I'll never be native, but I definitely improved. Confidence - Both in language and in self. I had never traveled alone before in the U...."

A student Pennsylvania State University - University Park / Penn State
"I gained new travel skills that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I learned how to examine culture and how it shapes society. I also gained confidence in entering new or different situations."
A student United States Naval Academy
"My cultural understanding of both France and my home country increased tremendously. It was interesting to observe all of the things happening in the U.S. from the eyes of a different culture, and I feel like I learned more about the U.S. by being away from it. I also retained an incredible relationship with my host family, and ..."
Tanya A University of Virginia
"Besides getting a lot better at French, I feel much more confident in general after studying abroad, and have really grown to love traveling."

"Reflecting on my own culture in relation to another's, greater patience with myself and respect for those living in an international context"
A student Brandeis University
"I learned that I am perfectly capable living in a foreign city and meeting friends when I don't know anyone. Santiago challenged me in that I had to speak a different language, live with a family I didn't know prior to arriving and meet new friends. I would go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat. "
