One of the most popular and exotic tourist destinations on the planet, Tanzania is also brimming with opportunities for volunteers to make a difference. Between the heights of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti desert and the turquoise waters of Zanzibar, Tanzania’s landscape is a marvel of nature. While Tanzania has avoided political strife and has a stable democracy, the country faces many economic and social issues. These, coupled with a limited healthcare infrastructure, result in large numbers of HIV/AIDS orphans. Opportunities abound to work with children and youth in teaching or health care capacities. As a volunteer in Tanzania, you can choose to work in the bustling city of Dar es Salaam or the relaxed, country setting of Iringa. Adventure awaits with either choice – and so do smiling faces and friendly locals. United Planet is the US and Canadian partner of the International Cultural Youth Exchange, or ICYE. In Tanzania, you will work with United Planet Tanzania (UPTZ) to foster community and build relationships.
