About
Introduction to Reservoir Geophysics (3 credits)
This course will take you through the analysis of the hydrocarbon-based exploration and development cycle in a petroleum system that is common in both the Americas and Africa. You will explore geophysical measurement, data collection, data interpretation, modeling and uncertainty that are reinforcing concepts in the oil and gas industry!
Immersion Portuguese (3 credits)
Immersion Portuguese will be taught one week (20 contact hours) at TU and four weeks (25 contact hours) in Brazil. This language and culture course is an intensive introduction to spoken and written Brazilian Portuguese, with readings, film, and music representing Brazilian culture and society. “Immersion Portuguese” is especially designed for students who have some familiarity with Spanish.
Brazil life and culture workshops
This program will provide a unique opportunity to experience life and culture in Brazil! The course will be taught at the Universidade Federal Do Rio Grande Do Norte (UFRN) by U.S. and Brazilian faculty. Throughout the program, you will participate in workshops conducted by local experts to learn Brazilian culture, history, politics, and economy. You will conclude your program in Rio de Janeiro, participating in professional seminars related to the energy sector and in cultural excursions.
Professional preparation workshops
A key part of the program is access to SEG. During the orientation program, you will participate in career information workshops at the SEG headquarters in Tulsa. Throughout the course, you will have an opportunity to network with professional geophysicists based in SEG. At the conclusion of the program, you will participate in a workshop in which you will learn about summer internships in the U.S. and abroad, additional study abroad programs for geophysicists or for study in Brazil, avenues to continue studying Portuguese, or graduate programs in geophysics.
