About

Rise to the challenge of studying in this wild and varied natural environment – you won’t be disappointed! What differentiates West Highland College UHI from other institutions is the distribution and diversity of our centres. The ten West Highland College UHI learning centres are spread across a wide geographical area with centres dotted throughout the mainland from Ullapool in the north to Kilchoan in the south, a distance of more than 175 miles, and onto the isles of Canna, Eigg, Muck, Rum and Skye. Each centre is firmly rooted in the location it serves, working hard to provide easily accessible, locally relevant learning opportunities for young people, adults and businesses.

One of the largest campuses is in Fort William, home to the School of Adventure Studies and set in the "Outdoor Capital of the UK", at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, The Fort William Campus has a lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, multi-purpose classrooms, video and audio conference facilities, professional training kitchen, construction centre and music rooms to deliver courses across the whole curriculum. There is a relaxed on-site café for students and the public to enjoy. Another of the largest West Highland College UHI campuses is in Portree on the beautiful Isle of Skye. The Portree campus has multi purpose classrooms, video conferencing facilities for students studying networked courses, meeting rooms, IT suite, learning centre, professional training kitchen, training beauty salon, construction centre, art studio and student canteen. No matter the campus, study abroad students are taught alongside local and international students, and more information on course selection and application procedures can be found on our website.

Getting to and around the West Coast of Scotland and the Western Isles is easier than you think. Fort William has reliable bus and train links to Inverness, with its airport connections throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond. Flights are available from the Isle of Skye to Glasgow and Inverness Airports in addition to national bus service to the mainland.
