About
The Lews Castle College UHI Western Isles campuses are situated in some truly remarkable scenery. Not only does this mean that when you're not studying there is plenty to see and do to explore the great outdoors, but if you need inspiration from your surroundings you only need step outside the classroom and let nature take your breath away.
The Western Isles are renowned for their thriving cultural scene (particularly music and Gaelic) and that influences many of the courses. We also offer courses in a variety of disciplines, including engineering with options in renewable technologies – with renewables being an integral part of island life given our location. Our main Stornoway campus on Lewis is located in the grounds of the magnificent historic building where the college first began over 50 years ago, Lews Castle, specialising in Gaelic studies. The North Uist campus provides an opportunity to study Fine Art in the distinctive environment of the Outer Hebrides, and the Benbecula Learning Centre specialises in Music studies. Study abroad students are taught alongside local and international students, and more information on course selection and application procedures can be found on our website.
The Western Isles are well connected and within easy reach by plane and ferry from the Scottish Mainland, with flights to Stornoway seven days a week from all the main Scottish airports and to the Isles of Barra and Benbecula from Glasgow.
