The experience gave me a new perspective on challenges, joy, and life! Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I have gained so much from this experience. I've learned to act on my toes--meaning I may not always have a plan or expect what will happen each day. It taught me time management--how to balance school with free time and adventuring around Australia! The experience was BEYOND worthwhile for me. I've made friends I will keep in touch with for life, as well as personal spiritual growth like no other!! I would never trade anything for the past months in Australia!

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

UniSA offers incredible professor support and library resources for students--included unlimited wifi!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Normal lecture and tutorial style teachings.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Urbanest was located just 7 minutes from my campus! Very easy to access and close to campus!

* Food:

Food was great! They have an assortment of different cultural varieties in Australia, ranging from Indian food to seafood! They do, however, lack some American classics (i.e. tex-mex, and dr pepper). It was great to gain some cultural diversity! They even had kangaroo and lamb (two specialties in Australia!)

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The more time you spend in Australia, the more you feel like an 'Aussie!'

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The OSHC helps so much! Make sure to get a student card and that will take care of all your doctor visits and medical care while abroad!

* Safety:

Adelaide is easily one of the safest cities in Australia! Super friendly and honestly feels so much smaller than 1.2 million people!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Australia is expensive compared to America, but that doesn't mean you can't eat on a budget! Local markets have great deals on meat and veggies to save money!

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100-$120
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Make sure you leave space in your budget for transportation costs and miscallaneous things (i.e. GIRLS... makeup, hairbrush, shampoo, etc.) Especially for the first week you get there! Check if your housing has comforters/sheets/etc. already available or if you need to buy that.

  • Adventuring with friends! Food, Bible Studies, and fun times
* What could be improved?
  • UniSA Advisor system
  • On arrival preparation
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I would have known how much time I would dedicate to my studies. I've spent a similar amount of time that I do in the US; however, I wish I would have better understood the grading system over here. Professors expect different things and mark you on different aspects.
