About

This new program will provide you with the opportunity to study public speaking and global literature at Mahasarakham University in Thailand. While in Mahasarakham, you will enjoy many guided excursions and outings. A traditional Thai House and campus tour at Mahasarakham University (MSU) will provide you with insights and knowledge about traditional Thai communities. A night-market and street-food tour will allow you to experience the place where local Thais shop, dine, and socialize.  Other essential aspects of the Thai culture, such as healing and relaxing with Thai Traditional medicine, will be presented by the department of Thai Traditional Medicine at the MSU Medical School.

Other globally important sites will be toured, such as the International Centers tour, which includes such attractions as the American Corner, the ASEAN nationality rooms, the Confucian Center, and the Korean Cultural Center at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at MSU. You will also participate in Morning Merit, an early morning activity with local Thai people of giving food to Buddhist monks who travel on foot around the city to collect donations; a Thai silk making and rice farming tour; and a Soul Calling Ceremony.

On this program you will be enrolled in two courses: Public Speaking: Speaking in the “City of Knowledge” and Global Literature I: Rituals, Connections, and Communities. You will be taught by two faculty members from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
