Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

Justice, Race and Class

Course Department: Psychology
Instructor: James R. Flynn
Instruction Language: English
Comments: This course was extremely challenging, not because of the material itself, but because of the way it was presented by the professor and the way the assignments were graded. The professor, James Flynn, is a world renowned psychologist in the field of race and class issues, which had me very excited to be in his presence. I quickly learned that, even though he was clearly a great mind in his field, his lectures were dry and repetitive. The other side of this course was the assignment. Other than the final exam (worth 60%), there was one 2000 word paper (worth 40%). This assignment is marked by a tutor. After getting this assignment back, I received many points off for unexplained reasons. After talking with others, the same thing seemed to happen to them. The class average was a 63%. My final issue with this class was that it was marketed as a Psychology course. In reality, it had very little to do with Psychology and was almost entirely a Philosophy/Sociology course. I would not recommend taking this course to other students coming to Otago
