University of Northern Iowa: Traveling - UNI Climate Change Capstone in Spain

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I really enjoyed visitng the cultural sites and interacting with the locals. I'd visited Spain once in high school and the trip confirmed my love for the country. It also allowed me to practice the Spanish language.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I feel this course material was very well suited for Spain and I would reccommend the program to continue in some way with a different professor. The workload previous to traveling abroad was much heavier than other capstones based on speaking with other students and very little "teaching" was done. The majority of it consisted of research and some discussion, but the "correct answer" was never clarified or explained in a manner students could understand. I also don't feel it was appropriate of the Yates to ask us to grade each other on a scale of 1-5 regarding aspects of the trip we weren't aware we were going to be graded on. As we had never seen these criteria before it was also very unfair to ask to rate each other on areas we hadn't been observing each other in.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

As stated above, I don't feel the professors of this trip are capable traveling abroad with students. They are unable to relate to students, are more interested in their own learning, and are very unclear in their expectations and plans.
