Once in a Lifetime Experience in Newcastle Past Review

By (University of Northern Iowa) - abroad from 02/27/2012 to 06/21/2012 with

University of Newcastle: Newcastle - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned how different other countries run their Universities. I do have an appreciation for American universities now but it was amazing getting to experience an Australian university. I learned that I can really be on my own without my parents being able to come over if I need something. I can adapt well in a new environment and also, I love traveling!! It was beyond worthwhile, mostly because of the people I got to know and become friends with all over the world.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $200 for housing + $50 for food/personal

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Living with the locals and not being singled out as an international student
* What could be improved?
  • I didn't really feel like the administration there did anything to help me get settled. I was able to figure things out on my own.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I didn't need to bring so much stuff! And more importantly that I would get so close to some people.
