University of Liverpool: Liverpool - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I gained more independence definitely, a knowledge of budgeting and planning. Definitely worthwhile
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The university runs things pretty smoothly, I did attend during nationwide strikes so things were a little messed up but my teachers handled it very well. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The program was incredible, we were provided the opportunity to go on university-organised trips around Britain, and also had various evening events. I would only say that the communication between the study abroad team and the students needs to be improved. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I stayed in Melville Grove and I found it to be great. I shared the house with 6 other students, 4 being exchange students themselves. It was cleaned regularly and was a great place to stay in Liverpool. |
* Food: |
I wasn't in catered housing but the restaurant options around campus were great. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Amazing, there were plenty of bar nights, soccer streams, bingo events and more. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I don't think this has any responsibility on the program. We were told to register with the local Brownlow Health Practice and I found it to be pretty abissmal. Went in to give a sample and never heard back, communication was poor as well. |
* Safety: |
Liverpool is pretty safe for students, just be careful on a late night out in the city centre. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
The experience was just so amazing, I feel like I really developed and made life long friends. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It was pretty easy for me but it all depends on how much you have saved. Cheap groceries at Lidl is essential ! |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 50-100 pounds depending on my activities |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Shop at Lidl or Aldi, find a cheap pub for your nightly drinks, keep track of student discounts and offerings. |
