Overall Experience
Learned a lot about being the 'odd one out' and not having the best local language skills. Gained experience living alone and dealing with 'loneliness' in a foreign place (very hard). Overall I'd say it was worthwhile, pandemic parts of it sucked however. - University of Alberta - Outbound View Entire Review
I learned how incredibly small Europe is. I also learned that Germany is the best place to watch a World Cup, ERASMUS students (students in the EU) study abroad almost exclusively to learn a language and are not accountable for their GPA while abroad, and that John Travolta was right in Pulp Fiction when he said that Europe is b... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I definitely improved my German and I am happy about that, but it wasn't because of my living situation. I lived with a Host Family for 2 months before semester started and that was the best way! they were super nice and had patience. Also making an effort to eat with German local students who wouldnt change into English helped ... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I gained so many new friendships, the ability to adapt to pretty much anything and a unique look into German culture that most people don't ever get to see. Freiburg is a wonderful place and I would choose to study there again over any other place in Germany. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I became much more independent from this time abroad. Spending a whole year away from home is a much different study abroad experience than most people will have; you truly feel like a part of the community while still holding on to your American roots. My German definitely improved, but I know if I would have made more of an ... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I gained a lot of perspective on possible careers and feel more confident in my german speaking. I now have friends not just in Germany but all over the world. It's definitely worthwhile if you can deal with sometimes being lonely and alone and being in uncomfortable situations. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
It was very worthwhile, I learned that I was able to adapt to a completely new situation and live in a place very different from my own. I learned that I can push myself to try and do new things and I gained the experience of a different culture and the cultures of places I traveled too. It wasn't easy and sometimes, especially ... - University of Hartford View Entire Review
I learned how to adapt to any situation and make friends with people who I never thought I would be friends with before. I really have more of an open mind now to everything. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
There were many important lessons learned while abroad, among them were appreciating the different views and opinions that others had, learning how to budget while in another country, and an improvement in my ability to speak and understand the German language. It was most definitely worthwhile and would highly recommend all to ... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

Internationalization is relevant in all areas of university life: research, academics, continued education, and administration. Transnational exchange facilitates the qualitative development and improvement in all these fields. The basis for successful projects is a strategy which includes a common understanding of procedures, benefits, and goals of internationalization, as well as the combination of top-down and bottom-up activities.
