Tufts Programs Abroad: Tufts in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was very worthwhile. I gained a lot of perspective on how other cultures function (London especially, but also from travel to other countries in Europe).

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Full-Year 2008

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Jaki, the program director, was really helpful and organized. She made the experience much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a dorm which was set up in suites. I lived in a suite with four British students. We had a kitchen and two bathrooms.

The rooms were small, but the location was great!

* Food:

I cooked most of my own meals.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Tufts in London organized many events, such as plays, football games, museum trips, and day trips.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We were acclimated to the student health services. I felt fairly safe in the area.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I spent about 30 pounds on groceries each week, and more if I wanted to eat out. I spent about 20-30 pounds each week on entertainment.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The weekly stipend that we received covered my food expenses as well as some money for entertainment and travel.
