Tufts Programs Abroad: Tufts in Hong Kong

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely. This is all very cliche, but I got so much more self sufficient living on my own in a completely different place, and so much more self confident. And I got to travel so much and have so many amazing once in a life time experiences

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Cheating is an excepted part of the system- professors did not care. Since I didn't want to cheat (and didnt have the connections even if I'd wanted to) I felt like I was at a disadvantage.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Vera was great. She was so helpful and approachable.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The dorms were terrible. The people at the front desks were rude. Exchanges were treated completely differently and punished much more harshly

* Food:

So cheap so good

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Hong Kong is amazing- from markets to hiking to night life, I was finding new places until the day I left. It was also so easy to travel around China and south east Asia. This was my favorite part of being abroad.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? about $150-200, including going out a few times a week and some travel
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? tampons. expensive in hong kong and impossible to find in mainland china

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
