Hospitable Unforgettable Ireland. Past Review

By (English, Wellesley College) - abroad from 08/25/2014 to 12/12/2014 with

Trinity College - Dublin: Dublin - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Very worthwhile. I learned important life skills for post-graduation life and I immersed myself in a very different, special culture that made me feel uncomfortable and alien at first but then I grew to love and appreciate. I also got to travel to 4 other cities in 4 different countries which provided so much global experience and understanding. I will never forget my experience.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Compared to Wellesley, the professors were impersonal and the curriculum was very difficult to follow because of the lack of syllabi and the lack of work throughout the semester and then the pile of exams/paper during the last week.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location and overall complex was fantastic! My specific room had black mold in the bathroom and mildewed carpet.

* Food:

No food plan. Dublin is very pricey. Tasty...but pricey.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Not nearly as accessible or personal

* Safety:

You just need to be smart like in any city, there are some rough areas...comparable to Boston.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 300
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Bring more than your think you need and if you don't have it, be prepared to eat unhealthy packaged foods and only treat yourself to coffee or a beer ever once and a while.
